History
Sap Core Legion a brief history and a small tale from EarthThe Secret Alliance Protection Corporation was set up as an Alliance group, a covert group of individuals from around the Galaxy coming together for the protection of freedom and independence. The old-timers on the frontier around 58 Epsilon Herculis mocked the new comers' by calling us the "SAP Core" after the obsolete power module. Legion was added a bit later by pirates and bounty hunters who learned, at least the ones that survived, to stay clear of ships with "SCL" nameplates.
While it seemed like this was a rag tag bunch of Commanders from varying political ties they quickly got organised and gained a sturdy reputation. Rather than a strict military hierarchy as found in the Federation or the lineage/ bloodline aristocracy as found in the Empire, Sap Core structured itself around the strengths and weaknesses of its individuals finding specific tasks for its members based on their skill sets.
Starting at 58 Epsilon Herculis Sap Core fronted as a Mining outfit, to be fair Sap Core do have a great mining contingent but beneath the surface there was more afoot going on at 58. Sap Core made huge pushes for expansion from their home system and now reside in 15 plus systems taking control of many fantastic space stations and ports.
Sap Core make an effort to take in the waifs and strays, the angry or disillusioned and even those that just needed help making it in a unforgiving galaxy. They have fought in covert wars against the Imperials and the Feds, ran smuggling runs from one end of the galaxy to the other. They played a big role in the protection of Yuri Nakamura an ally of disgraced Senator Salome who held important data, plus many other rather rogue operations. So it may seem that Sap Core are the bad guys but you would be wrong.
They have made an effort to stop famine around Alliance space, set up a School/University for the underprivileged at 58 epsilon Herculis and have future plans to build a hospital at a future location.
So are Sap Core the good guys, well that's all down to Interpretation I guess. Which brings myself Evaldo Evanstar into this brief history. Around 6 months ago I took a trip to Earth, I was following the footsteps of disgraced Senator Salome, it turned out to be a wild goose chase but I digress. What I did find however was something just as interesting, as we all know Earth has the best libraries in the galaxy. I am not talking about data archives either, I am talking about actual books made of paper and ink.
The book I discovered however was not found in any Federal library but rather a quaint antiques shop in Cambridge, now this place is not easy to find off the beaten track and rather scruffy looking. The owner there a Mr Lorek Bell told me the shop had been with his family for generations since the early 20th century starting as a furniture store. Over the years it had turned into an Antiquities dealer eventually becoming what it is today.... a place for old junk but for some people junk can be treasure.
While browsing a came across a book on a display case, it had been carefully preserved and marked "not for sale"
' May I take a look as this book ' I asked
' Of course ' replied Mr Bell ' I think you will find this one interesting '
What would he know about what I might find interesting I thought to myself, I picked up the book and took a seat at an old looking desk and glanced down at the title " The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood of Great Renown in Nottinghamshire by Howard Pyle published 1883 " I pondered over which was older, the book or the desk ??
I glanced around to ask Mr Bell but he had disappeared somewhere, I wonder if he is watching me I thought. I turned to the first page and started reading....
It turned out that this Robin Hood Fella became an outlaw after a conflict with foresters ( people who cut down trees ) telling his many adventures and run ins with the law. Each chapter told a different tale of Robin as he recruits Merry Men, resists the authorities, and aids his fellow man !! The story of Little John defeating Robin in a fight with staffs and becoming close friends and allies, of Robin's besting at the hands of Friar Tuck a slightly alcoholic religious man and of his collusion with Allan-a-Dale a wanderer and an expert robber. He also stole from the Sheriff of Nottingham often giving to those most needy. Eventually it turned out that the Sheriff was a rather a rouge and Robin and his Merry Men brought this to the attention of the King Richard the Lionheart who pardoned Robin and brought his gang into the Kings trust.
The parallels between this book and Sap Core were uncanny yet I had never heard of this Robin Hood before, probably due to Federal restrictions in historical falsities. I checked the time, 5 hours had passed !!! I looked behind me to check outside to see if it was dark and was startled to see Mr Bell looking over my shoulder, How long had he been there for I pondered.
' Did you find what you were looking for ' he asked
' I wasn't aware I was looking for anything ' I replied
' Well we can find answers in the strangest places ' he said with a wry smile
I stood up and pointed to a hanging clock, I knew what it was but had no idea how to read it , I mumbled something about the time, gave thanks and headed to the exit.
As I was leaving Mr Bell shouted ' Keep up the good work '
The hairs stood up on my neck, was this guy some some sort of pyschic, did he know me, who I was and where I was from ?? This was worrying, I paid 30m credits for Earth documents from the a highly reputable source. It would seem my time on Earth was coming to an end, all throughout the book I was looking forward to a trip to Nottingham but not now, its not safe.
So I left Earth in a hurry, I contacted everyone I knew and was told that my false documents were still clean and had not appeared on any databases.
After more thought over the months I decided that the enigmatic Mr Bell had a love for the book and that he recognised in me something familiar with the story. Maybe he dreamed of being a man like Robin Hood himself, I tried to contact him several times but got no reply. People from Earth are very strange I guess but I was at least expecting a small hello.
Its strange however that sometimes when you meet someone you can instantly find a connection and trust, with others it takes some lengthy talking. A bit like Sap Core....... of course the lengthy background checks and covert spying certainly helps.
We started out as a small company on a federal claim in a small offbeat world within the federation borders. We were on contract with the federal Navy to supply metal to federal shipyards. After a few imperial bombings from local skirmishes, we came to angry blows with our contract holders over the loss of life and assets. after our company had dragged itself up from the bottom, again and again, the federation slapped a war tax on us. They demanded regular payments of 20% of all mined materials. Upon their first pickup, there was a scuffle between the warrant officer and and one of my business associates that caused the feds weapon to missfire and kill a close friend. She will be sorely missed, and the ensuing wave of violence that blew up on our station against our benefactors forever shall be not spoken of within those who were present. Those that survived fled in mostly civilian vessels to the outer rim regions tailed by federal agents that were picking us off for sport one at time. we eventually arrived at a system that housed a large population of an unfettered camorra that destroyed the federal ships that closed in on us. The last of us managed to make it as far as a large red gas giant before our lead ships were interdicted and taken out of orbit into the startling giants rings. the shining red brilliance that glistened of the surface of rocks from the green star left both attacker and us frozen in time, speechlessly gazing at the largest payload of panite anyone could have possibly ever seem. We immediately surrendered.
Their leader was quite a bit more negotiable than we assumed. They heard our story, not having any love for the federation themselves, I was able to offer them terms that were quite agreeable for both parties. They lacked the knowledge of resource extraction, and we lacked the means of defense. All they wanted was to share in the riches. After a time, our relations grew us into a single cohesive unit. We had heard rumors of a man who had formed an alliance of independant systems that managed to stave of the imperial and federation warmongers. Looking for more contracts to sell our reserves to, we sent out envoys to see if these rumors were true. The following meeting with Edmond Mahon proved to change all our live forever.
Our company grew with the astronomical gains created by trade deals set up by Mahon and we slowly became idealists with our new found wealth willing to do anything to uphold the values of our peaceful coexistence with so many different cultures. We became almost a private army, that branched out into many forms of business. Even the unscrupulous. we don't always agree, but we are legion against all odds. the one thing we agree on always.
