Luna discovers and confirms the presence of Aleoida Coronamus on this desolate, icy planet.

While all Aleoids share similarities with eachother, each different species has visual varieties, coloration and functions. The Coronamus species, for example, has mottled leaves that interleave to form a crown, which can potentially grow to head height. Its main method of seed dispersal is via explosive seed pods, which emerge on the long stalks that protrude from the base of the plant.

A nearby mountain range contains a large cluster of a specimen known as Osseus Fractus. Traces of a metallic meteorite are also discovered in the midst of the cluster, but seems to have done no damage to the organisms nearby.

Osseus is a very slow-growing lifeform that is found near rocky areas on planets. It appears as if this species has developed a symbiotic relationship between two unicellular organisms. One type is responsible for the energy production, while the symbiotic cells harvest some of the energy and deposit a hard substance extracted from local rock formations to create its endoskeleton. Fractus in particular has the ability to grow six metres in length, and produce ridged frills for metabolic processes, with most of the surface area developed for photosynthetic processes.

Survey teams arrive at a planet rumoured to contain Aleoida Coronamus. Scans confirm that this icy world houses multiple types of biological sites, but a large region of the planet is almost entirely devoid of life as it has frozen solid over millions of years.

The search begins, with survey teams once again utilising SRVs to avoid overexposure to freezing temperatures.

Survey teams discover a bit more of an elusive organism - Bacterium Aurasus. Spread across a wide area, this organism is a unicelluar extremophile. Being the most common type of life, bacterium can survive in a huge variety of temperatures, atmospheres, and so forth.

Bacterium Aurasus favours carbon-dioxide atmospheres, which causes blanket coloration on the surface of a planet, and utilise photosynthetic, chemosynthetic or thermosynthetic processes to survive. It's believed that bacterium is the precursor for many different types of life, and as such they are often found in conjunction with other species.

A distress beacon located on the dayside of the planet is detected by the TSV Journey sensors. Against safety precautions, the crew opts to investigate the site.

An AECU specialist is dispatched to take a look at the site, but minimal salvage is found. The site seems to have crashed a very long time ago, with minimal ground scarring as the soil has resettled. Two escape-pods lie near the crash, but as far as the crew can tell, the occupants are no longer within.

The survey teams discover two types of life within the canyon - Fungoida Stabitis, and Concha Renibus.

Fungoida Stabitis is a type of fungoid that uses geothermal energy to survive. The plant grows, producing two-metre high structures comprised of small, tightly clustered cylindrical shapes. Although they share many visual similarities with fungi, they are not saprophytic, and instead rely on chemosynthetic or thermosynthetic processes. Because these plants grow deep within the substrate of a planet, it is both protected from extreme environments, and able to use the aforementioned processes to survive. Some species support gaseous exchange via the atmosphere as well, and some are also bioluminescent due to metabolic processes involved with breaking down accumulated toxins.

Concha Renibus is an extremely complex extremophile that has specialised to develop protective motile shell structures. The shells are comprised of inorganic material that allows it to maintain homeostasis. The organism within are only exposed to perform metabolic and reproductive tasks. Renibus in particular relies on a heat source to survive. As the growth bisects, it sprouts a stalk with multiple branches of luminous fronds that facilitate metabolism.

Survey teams receive orders to stay inside their SRV unless they must disembark for sampling. The hazardous terrain is proven to be more tricky than expected, with deep ravines dominating the bottom of the canyon.

The ravines pose a serious physical risk towards on-foot survey teams, so the decision to strictly utilise the much hardier SRVs in this region is made.

The TSV Journey tracks down biological life located beyond the terminator of this planet. Caution is taken by the pilot as the radar picks up hazardous terrain. Night-vision allows the pilot to pick a suitable landing spot in these conditions.

With re-entry complete, the TSV Journey settles in a dark canyon. Survey teams already spot some sort of fungoid life growing down within the darkness.

Survey teams are ordered to not stray too far from the TSV Journey or an accompanying SRV, due to frigid conditions and visibility conditions.

In the surrounding area of the TSV Journey landing zone, survey teams locate a specimen known as Tussock Triticum.

This subtype is predominantly identified by thin and tough leaves, which are marked with dark stripes. Taller stalks may sprout with much smaller leaves, and seeds are released from these stalks, relying on wind dispersal to spread seeds into the surrounding area for further growth.

In the surrounding area, survey teams uncover a type of low-lying organism that fits the classification of Stratum Cucumisis.

These organisms bond tightly to the surface of planets and rocks, with the majority of its 'body' embedded underground, as a protection method. The tougher photosynthetic proto-leaves are left exposed, which allows the organism to thrive. Cucumisis is particularly an ovoid shape that connect themselves in a narrow pattern. The streaks on the Stratum itself are the photosynthetic cells, which absorb sunlight to create energy for the organism.

The survey team suspend further exploring and allow the crew time to rest, intending to resume the operation when possible.

Reports transmitted by Luna give us more genetic data again. This organism is Aleoida Gravis, and shares many of the same biological properties as Aleoida Arcus.

This subtype grows huge leaves that are connected to a heavy bark base. Just like other types of Aleoida, the leaves are used to redirect or absorb atmospheric vapour. A dome-shape in the centre of the plant functions as the reproductive organ, but only when the plant is most mature.

Luna has transmitted back complete data for a species known as Clypeus Lacrimam.

This extremophile organism evolved to create hard shields around itself, allowing the organisms within to flourish in very hostile environments. The shield primarily protects against stellar radiation, and is retrieved and grown using surrounding inorganic material. This particular subtype grows a tear-shaped shield, the ridges of which help redirect atmospheric droplets into the soil beneath.

A slight detour is made to a promising ice planet as the TSV Journey passes through systems, which pays off, as survey teams uncover a specimen known as Fonticula Campestris.

These colony organisms are only found on ice worlds, where the surrounding frozen material is used as a protective method. As fonticulus develop, the ice around them is melted, and the liquid is absorbed by the colony. The liquid is excreted at the reproductive edge of the organism, where it refreezes to form a hard, translucent exoskeleton that shield the organisms from the elements. Reproduction likely occurs by colony division, when a collapsed shard from the main structure splits off to make a new colony.

Further surveys were underway, but the decision to abort and carry on was made after an SRV sustained moderate, but repairable, damage due to harsh terrain.

Exobiologist Hayes discovers life matching the Aleoida Arcus classification. Samples are taken in the surrounding area, resulting in complete genetic data.

These organisms are extremely robust, using photosynthesis to survive in this barren environment. The waxy leaves protect them from the extreme cold, and can also shut off the organism from the atmosphere, entering a phase of hiberation. Like most Earth-like plants, the leaves allow precipitation from the atmosphere to focus liquids for absorption in the centre of the plant. This particular species forms clumps of serrated leaves at the top, which allows it to reproduce and spread seeds, likely via very light wind dispersal.

With the samples retrieved, the decision to move on is made, and the TSV Journey takes flight once again.
