Operation Friends Afar

A few of the members of the Long-Range Trade wing within Rekall are trying to convince the higher-ups that after all these years they've finally uncovered a lead on this Mysterious Stranger and his Tip-Off mission business, and they're saying it's linked to a secret Trade industry.
But the biggest news of all is that these just might possibly lead to undiscovered missions.
Old news I know. Pipe Dreams and dead ends, I hear you, Ace. But to these guys, they leave no stone unturned and they really seem convinced this time around. We've already lost contact with one member of the wing. The prognosis of their situation isn't looking good.
We're talking systems way, way out there. The problem of course is tonnage and dragging your ass this many light years to see if it's true.

Whatta ya say? Consider it a vacation! You coming?

Systems of Operation Friends Afar

A. Populated systems far removed from civilization

Only a few days ago we received reports from one of Rekall's operatives that after years of investigation, they had successfully received a transmission from our old friend the Mysterious Stranger, but this time it was different, because the mission came through nearly 2,000 light-years from Earth, while in the heart of Barnard's Loop in the PMD2009 48 star system. This is special because receiving one of these so far from the bubble has only happened once, in the Pencil Sector out there in the Guardian Bubble many years back. Investigation into that matter revealed that that specific mission was a new one not yet given out by the Stranger and it helped piece together what we thought was a pretty complete story at the time. Corporate espionage, assassinations, kidnappings, takeovers, foul play....Onionhead in our soft drinks. You know the bit. Our agents believe that this is all tied to the Rare commodity trade industry. They also believe there are useful networking opportunities to be made out there.

Objectives of Operation Friends Afar

I. Provide at least 100t of various Rare commodities to any port in deep space. You might consider portioning the trade into chunks in an effort to trigger the communication between yourself and the Stranger. And because these transactions sometimes appear to take a little time to be noticed by the right parties, please loiter in the system at least one-hour post-trade. Sometimes the Stranger is a little late.
I'm sure I don't even need to say this, Ace, but if you're planning on trading Illegal goods, be sure to check the markets ahead of time to ensure there is a black market present at your destination. That's a hell of a trip to return with so much weight.

II. For posterity's sake, Our Minister of Surface-Discoveries has asked us to ensure we're covering all bases. Please use your DSS on all rings and landable planets of the systems you set your targets on during this investigation. You and I both know how faulty technology and second-hand investigations can be.

III. As always, Communications is asking that we scan and hack all available comms beacons and breach all available cargo bays on all non-dockable installations and settlements (pre-odyssey). These people love their data. I swear I can almost hear your actual thoughts. "C'mon! We both know scanning and hacking these piles of junk never reveals a god-damn thing!" Ya gotta trust us on this one. These investigations take time and effort.

IV. In an effort of tracking specific goods in specific places, use your Manifest Scanner on ships in or around the ports and navigation beacons of these systems. If we can identify specific Rare goods in specific places, especially with regularity, then maybe we can figure out a little more about how these mysterious places work when no one's watching.
If they're moving special weaponry around any of these places, it could be useful information as well.

Everyone who has traveled far into the great abyss knows the inherent dangers at play with such an endeavor, and even less knows just how much-added danger these small ports can be. Maybe what they say about Pirate Lords escaping to these distant terminals with all their treasure is true after all?
You see this through for us and I'm damn certain those at Squadron Recruitment will be glad to have you walking the halls of Rekall Inc. in no time.

You be real careful out there, Commander. Our doors will be open for you when you get back. We look forward to it.
