Phyllis Gotlieb

Phyllis Fay Gotlieb, née Bloom (May 25, 1926 – July 14, 2009) BA, MA was a Canadian science fiction novelist and poet.

Born of Jewish heritage in Toronto, Gotlieb graduated from the University of Toronto with degrees in literature in 1948 (BA) and 1950 (MA).

The Sunburst Award is named for her first novel, Sunburst. Three years before Sunburst was published, Gotlieb published the pamphlet Who Knows One, a collection of poems. Gotlieb won the Prix Aurora Award for Best Novel in 1982 for her novel A Judgement of Dragons.

Her widower is Calvin Gotlieb, a computer science professor; they lived in Toronto, Ontario.
