General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

I looked at the picture of this 'Melli' on the tablet. I had never seen a creature like this before, something that was apparently called a 'fox'. Actually, I hardly knew any animals anyway - on the base inside the asteroid where I grew up, there were no such things, apart from a few introduced insects. I came to the conclusion that it actually looked quite cuddly, although it was noted at the beginning that it seemed to be prone to violence.

"Looks kind of cuddly, this... 'fox'?"

I followed the rest of the conversation more or less uninterestedly, as I didn't know any of the people mentioned. I would probably take my leave soon and let the two of them refresh their stories from their past while I went back to my ship. After all, there was still the salvaged on-board computer of the crashed Azimuth spaceship, which had perhaps not yet revealed all its secrets.

"The dagger and stone are gifts from me yes.." I respond my eyes still closed. "Well the dagger is the gem.... that is from Melli. She took a liking to you."

My head nods down and I jolt awake again this time wincing as if I had been shocked. I look at the blade on the table and reach out for it an amused look on my weary face.

"For you no I made had this made for you. As in for the memory of you. See it reminds me of you when we met." I look over to Haraldsen and think for a moment about her question.

"Yes a fox well.... not entirely but that's a story for a much different place and a much different time. Let's just say Melli is very special and many in today's age would want to get their hands on her...." my voice trails off as again I nod off.
26 Apr 2024, 12:45pm
“How… did we meet?”, I decided to ask, most definitely curious, leaning forward slightly. “I would like to say I can remember, but …”

I remained silent, letting the quiet speak for itself.

“I’m not sure… how well I still know myself. It is like… I was put in a body, but I’m, someone else, in it. And I am just… inheriting the memories, of the person in it before me.”

‘Not to mention the changes that happened to it just because of me’, I added in my head.
26 Apr 2024, 2:36pm
"Heh that's a story. Short and sweet of it, we met here in this very bar. You were dark and broody, oh and wearing a hood." I let out a yawn and rub my eyes. "At least that's how I wrote it down in my journals."

My eye feel heavy again and the close unequally again. Trying to jog the memory when exhausted was taxing and even though the chatting I found myself drifting away from reality.

"We met just over there." I say pointing towards the middle of the bar. "Things had not gone well with a woman and her friends.. What a night that was."
26 Apr 2024, 3:14pm
“Oh. I… see. But, I just… have nothing. No memories, of it. Not even the woman… which you mean.”

I certainly couldn’t find anything about any event like that in my head.

“But, I think the hood is the same. It is just… the color of my skin which changed. I don’t mind it, too much, I think… and why it has changed is, difficult… maybe also not a subject for here. I would prefer a place, more private, for that.”

That whole mess with the Thargoids which I’d gone through at the end of the last year and had left me as an even bigger mess, both in a positive and negative manner, and in a certain way quite literally… was definitely a rather personal subject. Not one for a public bar, that much I knew.

“Have I told you about …”

I stopped the question short, remembering there was another person right near me. One whom I hadn’t told or shown the full extent of what I was yet, and still had to determine the trustworthiness of. So I threw a look in her direction, rather than keep looking in the general direction of Silvia, without establishing direct eye contact.

“I don’t mean to pressure you into, anything, but this… might be… personal.”
26 Apr 2024, 3:45pm
"Got it, darlings," I said with a wink, my voice dripping with mischief. "I'll leave you two to it. There's a pressing matter that needs my... personal touch."

I rose from my seat, the movement smooth and deliberate, like a panther ready to pounce, and gave a nod to the women.

"I'll be in touch," I said to Kasumi. Then I turned on my heel with a flourish and stalked out of the bar, my thoughts already on the problem that needed my urgent attention.
26 Apr 2024, 4:13pm
"Ya ok goodbye." I say through the heavy fatigue while waving lazily.

I place both hands on the table and lift myself out of the chair, swaying as I attempt to steady myself. Reaching for my data pad an alert pops up on the screen.

Biomonitor signal lost

"Well that's not good. Perhaps we should take this to my ship..... I uh have something I need to address as well." I say sort of sheepishly and slightly slowed.

I reach down and grab the data pad and place it in its pouch on my hip. With my other hand I grab the blade and attempt to place it back in my flightsuit. The edge of the blade catches on the material and through a half awake jerk it slices through and across my stomach. I look down as the sensation of metal dragging across skin courses through me.

"Huh that's sharp. Haha sharp, like my last name. Sharpe Sharpe sharp. Fun word sharp." I look up to Kira and smile amusedly.

"Come fuzzy friend. I need to get this taken care of."

I raised an eyebrow.

“Uh… ok. You… you go first. I don’t know where to.”

“And, maybe… you should check if you didn’t cut yourself, too.”

I wasn’t having much of the joking, even considering that a regular flight suit really didn’t provide much protection against anything other than the elements in their mildest form.

And maybe I just wanted her to go ahead to avoid any kind of accident where I bumped into her. Or she, into me, rather, and realized that my visual appearance didn’t currently match up with my physical shape. At all.

"Okie dokie. Follow me then."

I step forwards slowly processing my movements and ensuring my footing was solid. Between the delirium cause from the lack of sleep and the strange twinge I felt in the back of my neck I was relatively unsteady.

"It's going to be a bit longer of a trip. My ship is in long term storage. I've been on station for 5ish months now. The last little bit of it has been spent without sleep."

I place my cup gently on the bar and wave to the bartender.

"You can charge the account for mine and hers. That is if she hasn't paid already." I say as I motion towards Kira with a lazy nod of my head.

"I... haven't, no."

I noticed, or rather remembered, I'd ordered a second round of juice some time earlier, but it had totally slipped my mind. So I quickly went through it, then stood up, and followed suit in moving toward the bar top. Something within me had somewhat of an uneasy feeling about... something within this situation. But I couldn't figure out what for.

'Ah, hastny changed much. Quieter maybe.' I thought as I shrugged off my dusty jacket and looked around for a friendly face. 'I Need Company.'

'Beer please barman. Make it a big one.'

"Hm... looks quiet.", I muttered to myself as I came to the bar's entrance.

Things really hadn't changed much, or at least not that far back in the pre-war direction after Titan Oya's destruction. Maybe there were just that many people who hadn't survived or went missing when it'd arrived, just over a year and a half now, it was since then. Or maybe a lot of them were busy helping near one of the other Titans... or, just refused to return to the edge of the Bubble thanks to the invasion. Not that the core itself would be any safer if the Thargoids decided to attack it instead of the edges.

I shrugged lightly to myself, and wandered on in anyway, drawing a few looks thanks to my new appearance. Had already gotten quite a few on the way, too... as a woman with this kind of curvature would. Nobody had worked up the courage to ask yet, though. Or gotten bothersome about it. I waved a 'Fine for now, thanks' to the bartender when I heard them ask whether I wanted something, and just picked a spot to sit which hadn't been claimed yet.

Not that it was difficult to, given the relatively low number of occupants around the bar, right now. Had a good view on the entrance from here too, to see if anybody interesting came around. Would beat my last visit two or three months ago, if so... and I already couldn't help but notice there was an odd tension in the air, some hushed voices discussing what a Thargoid counterattack was likely to look like, others hoping the local area was done with the war. Both perfectly reasonable, and I hoped... that the Titan getting removed wouldn't end up making things here worse.

Changing home once, and then losing the new one for over a year, was enough already.

And maybe a drink wouldn't be off after all. If just to keep my thoughts elsewhere.

After spending so long with the rebuilding crews, and doing her best to feed the people of Gateway that had to stay while the Thargoids were still close by, Willow felt she was owed a little something by Citi management. Having her ad for her new shop added to the rotation on the bars holoscreens didn't seem like much of an ask.

At least the vending machines were now regularly stocked, and she didn't have to hoard her favorite flavors. With a hot BBQ ready meal, and tin of something cold that was more sugar than water in hand. Willow took a seat at the bottom end of the bar.

She could just ask to talk to the bar manager, but like, it was so much easier to type. Whatever the manager said, from here she could use her technical know how to add her ad to the rotation herself, if she had to.

I eyed that newcomer to the bar with a certain curiosity. Pitch black hair, equally for the clothing, skin white enough that it gave the impression it hadn't seen sun in quite a few years, and fairly thin. Could've almost been that one friend of mine, except for being a bit less tall, the makeup, and having a more averagely sized body. Much more averagely sized.

Something made me check if I had actually remembered to not wear my suit into this - wouldn't have been the first time - and I had. Black shirt that hugged the upper body quite neatly, red jacket with elbow-length sleeves, and of course, cargo pants with a sort of checkered red/black pattern, greeted my view.

Not that the latter really did much to hide my hips. Was kind of hard to when they were as wide as the shoulders, with the thighs corresponding, of course. The chest... I didn't much care to hide that, even liked displaying it a little - especially at this point, where it was larger than before - without any sort of cleavage visible, at least.

Now that I was sure I didn't look weird, in the clothing sense, I wandered over to the bar to order something. While I was a little curious about the person who'd just arrived and gone off to a dark corner, like I suspected Kasumi would have, just walking up without much of a reason seemed a little ill-mannered. I leaned forward onto the counter, one leg placed forward slightly. It was a provocative pose, certainly, but I liked to be so, a bit.

And there was something fun about messing with people using my figure... intentionally. Accidental bumps weren't so fun, neither for me nor the recipient.
