Elite roleplay: Q&A and OOC

What are they serving? 21st Century drinks? I understand from the commodities screen that alcohol is fairly generic, are folks happy if newbies like me run with it? In fact, when we are on the topic of it, is there a section of the site that details the do's an don't of the rp thread?
That being said, this site is on point, loving my experience here so far, and its opened up a whole new way of playing ED for me.

Frynge Dellisk
What are they serving?
Only the finest Ale that Cubeo has to offer, although I'd imagine the range of beers and spirits would be quite vast and varied, given the size of the population in the Bubble. I also wouldn't be surprised if the better brews from the 21st century would have their recipes and brewing methods preserved.

LordpsymonThey're still using SD cards in 3301, so I think you'll find your Guinness.

edit: found it The Thargoid and Fer-De-Lance plenty of items to riff off of from here.

If anyone is willing to help out a former role-player with some tips and ideas how to get myself started and immersed in the lore.
Feel free to contact me one way or another. It'd be greatly appreciated.
The galnet is a great resource for lore. However it seems that some of the older galnet articles are lost from the official site.
Thankfully they are archived on inara here and loosely categorized on the wikia, here.
Personally I haven't read all of the galnet articles to catch up on the lore. (just the aisling duval ones :p) So it could be whatever you make of it.
Radio Sidewinder is also a good source for IC adverts to riff on and this guy does stellar ship adverts.

Nothing gets me into the game like reading the stories about the game. If you are interested in both official and unofficial lore, I put some of it up on the Children of Raxxla site: http://childrenofraxxla.com/wiki/literature-archive/
Currently, that collection includes the story that came with Elite '84 (The Dark Wheel), the Oolite Saga by Drew Wagar and the history of Children of Raxxla. Back in Elite '84, the universe was very multi-raced. This was dropped in the next game iteration (leaving just humans and Thargoids). Drew wrote an amazing tetralogy bridging (unofficial canon) why the eight galaxies of the original games have been lost in the Oolite Saga. It's one of the best fan fiction/space operas I've read. All are available in PDF, Kindle or iPhone formats.
Of course, Drew went on to write official Elite : Dangerous canon with Elite:Reclamation. Since then, a few have picked up where he left off and write novellas such as the Children of Raxxla and Loren's Legion (http://lorenslegion.shivtr.com/news_entries/312537). I have a few other pieces I will add to the CoR Literature Archive, but that should help get you in the mood. Good luck!
Oh, and Drew has also started to collect fan fiction on his site here: http://www.drewwagar.com/elitelore/

Belongs to a deviantart artist called rymin07 so better ask permission first if anyone wants to use it.
Another picture that rymin07 has made is this;
Part of a shipyard, space dock or spaceship? You tell me.
This is probably how many view the universe when not in the pilot seat of their ships.
As you might have guessed, it also belongs to rymin07.
These all belong to rymin07 and I make no claims to them whatsoever.
I just stumbled upon them and felt a need to share these great pieces of work.

The Docks(Dockyards)
The Docks is where all pilots berth their ships. It is the first place that pilots find themselves upon landing their ship. Docking and launching is controlled by the Citi Gateway’s Traffic Controllers while each individual dock is controlled by a Dockmaster and a team of orange clad dock crew workers.
The Docks is a sparse and desolate, 0.1G environment, littered with service vehicles, cranes and landing pads. While cool, the air is dry and lightly filled with the smell of burnt metal and ship grease. Public Service Announcements blare across the the docks reminding all pilots of station regulations.
LOCATIONS
The docks contain, 45 individual ship docks, several warehouses storing massive tank of hydrogen fuel, and standard shipping containers of cargo, the dock’s traffic control tower and the local pilot’s market which resides in one of the warehouses.
Ship Docks
Each specific dock has a landing pad, a ship hangar and adjoining terminal. In each terminal there is a passenger waiting area, the dockmaster’s control tower and several dock crew vehicle bay.
"Do you have permission to be inside the docking bay?" - Station Announcement
Warehouses
If the docks were already unpopulated, warehouses would be completely vacant of anyone if not for a small handful of security staff. Warehouses are completely automated and highly guarded facilities as they contain massive amounts of valuable and flammable material.
"Loitering is a crime punishable by death" - Station Announcements
Pilot's Market
The pilot’s market is best described as a tourist trap for pilots. Every person who’s not a pilot is trying to guile a pilot to part with their credits.
"The station administrators would like to remind all pilots that transactions in the pilot’s market are not protected by Citi Gateway or The Bank of Zaonce" - Station Announcements

SERVICES
At the docks, pilots can request ship services from the dockmaster such as refueling, rearming and outfitting. They can also connect to the info-link to initiate purchasing and reselling of trade commodites with the station’s commodity broker or querying the bulletin for jobs. They may also pay fines and levies to the station and the controlling faction.
*******
after checking, I think The Docks ought to be called The dockyards because Dockyards comprise of sevveral docks. That being said the docks rolls off the tongue easier.

Welcome to the swankiest bar and most popular bar on station. Located in the Pilot's market and due to its close proximity to the docks is heavily frequented by pilots and all manner of crew, tourists, and layover passengers. Dark, smokey and trimmed in neon lights and bits of tinsel, InGaBa plays only the best music straight from Radio Sidewinder and local DJ star, Janten Groove.
"Come to InGaBa, we're not strangers here..." - Artie, InGaBa Manager
There are various tabled and seated cubby holes that patrons can hold private conversations as well the main bar top where all assortments of drinks and bar food can be ordered up. On the back of the bar on various shelves, from all over the galaxy, the fines and rarest ales preside. next to the impressive collection are several screens that can usually be seen playing adverts or the CQC championships.
It is the most prominent choice for meeting up with other pilots to discuss business discreetly, whatever they may be...
Notice booking the InGaBa for private functions require a deposit of 250,000 CR to cover potential damages.
******
I'm a fan of InGaBa but do I like the long form as well. It's shorter and I thought InGaBa would be a great sub location in the Pilot's Market. But if it's not to your liking and like to think of it as a place all the locals go to, let me know, your ideas.
