I'd envy those using VR if it wasn't for the costs and the fact that I would be unable to use it most of the time. The immersion comes from doing things together with others for me mostly.


I sprung for VR last Summer, and to be honest, I'm not impressed. After an initial splurge into it, I went a few months without even turning it on. It's been weeks now since I last tried it, Please don't feel like you're missing out. If I had it to get again, even with someone else's money, I would think twice, and would probably spend the money on a better monitor, a high end GPU or a more comfortable office chair instead.

Yes, the sense of "space" is awesome, but the "screen door" effect is pretty tedious. With so much black, things just tend to look grainy. Flying in a RES is very cool, but the game looks so nice in higher resolution on a good screen, that I have to say VR is really not a game changed for me.

I probably need to invest a lot of time into getting all of the various controls I don't actively use mapped better to my HOTAS to be able to keep the bucket on my head. And it's very nice to be able to have a beer, or just anything to drink on hand while playing, and VR makes even that a pain in the butt.

So, while awesome, we're still a few years away from VR being the best way to play this game. VR is still very "bleeding edge" and unless you have play money to blow on a thing you may decide not to use more than a few times per year, there's better ways to make ED better.

So the new Guardian Plasma Chargers are ridiculously fun. I think they do round about the same damage as a normal Plasma Accelerator at full charge, but the explosion they unleash is insane! That and the option to just rapid fire some small shots is lovely. They run a bit hot, but hey... Plasma.

ive found that they are way less hot than regular PA's. according to the stats at full charge they actually do more damage then an unengineered class 3 PA

Yeah! They do like... 3 more, lol. It's not a lot, but being able to put a "large" plasma accelerator on a medium hardpoint is great! I just wonder how they measure up against an engineered plasma.

personally i think both the gauss cannons and plasma charges are better than even engineered rails and PA's (medium). im liking them a lot so far.

and 3 more damage is a lot considering we're comparing a medium and a large weapon. with the heat and distributor draw, having 2 PCs IMO is much better than 1 large PA.

in addition to that they absolutely rape thargoids. 1 hit from 2 gauss cannons brings a cyclops heart down to 8% from 100%!

Is there any way to avoid sorting through all the wing missions? Unfortunately, I'm only able to play the game for short periods, which precludes online gaming with others. Sadly, I'm never in a wing. But, I've been enjoying the game until now. And, I don't see a way to filter out the wing missions.

There is no way yet, but it's been requested ceaselessly since the release.

There's nothing stopping you from doing a wing mission by yourself. It might take longer than the short periods you have to play tho.

Except the part where you're getting paid 1 person's wage for 4 people's work.  The prices offered for wing missions are not an effective return on time invested if you attempt to solo them.

I've started two threads on the FD forums asking for wing missions to be put in a separate section, like passenger missions already are, for that reason - and that they're a special interest item you don't want crowding out the main mission board.

Really? Not bad! Have you tried the turret version yet?

And i think my favourite thing about the plasma chargers has to be the insane explosion they produce. Thats one sizable kaboom
I fitted 4 of them to my FDL, hunting last night was a blast

I'm sure I saw a wing promotion from a bunch of guys calling themselves: Australian Research Space Exploration (or something very similar). Yes that does spell ARSE
