Well, aircraft cockpits in anything larger than a single seater have the Pilot on the left and the co-Pilot on the right. Maybe they were using that as a basis.

I don't mind sitting left or right of center. But things that obstruct the view are annoying. In any cockpit.

Khm... Maybe it's a matter of tastes. But yeah, sometimes blocks some HUD symbols. Why they won't allow us to make them smaller?..
(yeah, I know, HUD code is kinda... screwed)

Why a HUD projection inside the cockpit gets blocked by canopy pillars behind it is another of those ED mysteries...

It's projected on the glass surface. At least from what I see. And cockpit frame have a notch to hold the glass, so you can see HUD drawn over "outer" side, but under "inner" one.

Look how "info panel" goes in front of everything, and HUD indication is clipped to match the glass shape.



A small detail that somehow... made me smile a bit. They did put an effort into this. Devil is in the details.

The two large Gutamaya ships and Zorgon Peterson's Fer-De-Lance and Adder have the pilot position on the right.



You know... I never even noticed it in the Cutter. Are you sure? It's been a few weeks since I've been able to play, and I'm not sure if I'll get to it tonight or over the weekend (and the alpha beckons) but I thought the Cutter was a center seat with a seat on either side.

No, Epi is correct. Pilot seat is on the right in a fat-boy imp cutter. But there are no pillars to obstruct the view.

It’s also odd that the fdl hologram in the shield area is far too big for the space. Seems to dwarf the cutter, conda or corvette

FDL has the worse view blocking because of that one bar. It's right in the near middle of your sight while flying and shooting.

Probably some... another HUD issues that they can't fix that far.

Yeah, but why would you do that if you have holographic projection everywhere else? UI panels hovering in the air, but the HUD needs a glass pane?

And that's the question. Probably to give a "glass clear" view forward to the pilot. Because every (almost ) panel have a darkened background.
Anyway, it was just a limp lore-driven justification of... poor HUD coding?

Server is being a pain...trying to low wake for the last hour and get the "Orange Sidewinder" message after freezing just before witch space...grrrr! I can fly around the station all I want...Just can't jump. Guess I'll park it for a while...Got a good shot of my ship from the tower though...
