Believe that the Imperial High Command Powerplay group had that.

I don’t think they exist anymore. Can’t seem to find it.

Isaiah is right. That's what we got. And it's not a listed group. More so the leaders of the individual Imperial power groups coming together as an over-arching strategy machine. The Feds have a similar group.

Also the Patreus "shield" is not a shield. It's a nautical compass... or it's a masonic compass. More so the masonic compass.

I've been working closely with an old guard Imperial to come up with a great rank insignia system. It's progressing well.

Seems way to complicated to me. Not that I don't understand the reasoning you have the elements there you have, but this also need to fit on a uniform and should be easily identified at a glance. I would look to military ranks for how they're made for ideas how to simplify yours and make a more compact design.

Yeah, that kind of was the reasoning behind the more simplistic designs I had with my idea here, but instead of military ranks I was looking at heraldy and how certain aristocratic titles are represented there (see the few posts before that scribble I made for details).

Though it would be a waste to discard those awesome designs... maybe its how an individual's standard looks like instead of his rank insignia?

Standards and coat of arms seems more suitable for the more complicated design. Ranks new be be able to be easily distinguished on the shoulder of a uniform!

The simpler the better. A good example in modern science fiction would be Star Trek: The Next Generation and the subsequent shows.

There's a difference between, rank insignia & position or status insignia, I think.

The former would be something to be worn on the uniform, whereas the latter might be used on, say, a wall plaque, or desk, door, etc. Perhaps on a 'Letterhead'; something prefacing a communique, for instance.

No reason that both ideas can't be used, & if possible, of related design in some way. Take, for instance, some common elements that all have posted here (fine work, BTW!) & derive a simplified version, in the manner of the SF rank insignia, for military/uniform rank.

I'd keep in mind, that although, afaik, the Imperials do have their distant roots based from Earth, their sense of aesthetics would be quite different. I draw my impression over the differences in ship design, for instance: The Federal designs seem to emphasize function over form, whereas the Imperial designs, just the reverse. No less able or effective, just looking a whole lot smexier at the same time.

Thusly, I'd expect that the Imperial designs would likely be more ornate, & with less concern towards a more simplistic minimalism or at least, a much more stylized minimalism.

Just my thoughts, FWIW.

I agree with CMDR Wylder. The Federal Collar rank would be more simple and functional wear as the Imperial would be more decorative and flamboyant. Look at the different collar insignia used in today's military. The USA and UK Navies are similar wear as other countries are more Imperialistic.

We're still working on it. Things will be more compact. Keep in mind that Imperial ranks will be more ornate than Federal or Alliance, and due to the more traditional/medieval naming scheme, is more likely to have old styled coat-of-arms like symbols.

Jason, I see what you mean. But, Star Trek this isn't. However, the Federation may adapt a system much like that.

Synthya, you hit the nail on the head.

Looking forward to see the next design! Definitely expect them to be more ornate than the federation (who would likely use something very similar to current navy or air force, possibly with slight variation developed as the space force was another branch. I can't offhandedly remember any emblems used in the military outside of what's on the uniforms and the titles themselves.

Would certainly expect the Imperials to make wide use of coat of arms etc for location decoration, but likely still want a compact design to designate their status in uniform. This could theoretically be expressed in the uniform design itself rather than a shoulder pad common these days.

Initially I had some issue with fasces used within ranks, but thanks to this post I got a bit more reference by reading about that symbol. Guess I learn something new every day, too. Given that New Republic (Current) used valknut back when it was Bloodbound Harvest, I had similiar objections given the modern context but it was more easy to identify it with viking symbolism rather than one of the hate speech groups.

As for the ranks, I seriously advise you to peek into "Jayne's Intelligence Review, Vol. 1 – Royal Manticoran Navy" as it contains a lot of info about the Honor Harrington's setting superpower - including ranks, uniforms and so on.

Like I pointed out earlier though: the aristocratic title/rank in heraldy is not getting represented by adding more stuff like axes, swords, beasts, etc to it but by the coronet used on top of the escutcheon. So from that point of view your designs, while impressive, are going completly overboard regarding the issue at hand.
