Elite: Odyssey

It's an alpha. No wonders it's not optimized well. It's an incomplete product given for a functionality test.

(Ain't participating in EDO Alpha, but I know what "Alpha version" means)

I fell out of Hopkins station this evening... that was fun.

Got a mission completed - a go fetch one.

had a taxi not able to land on a planet out post for a bout 12 mins.. took me for a trip around the moon in low wake... mostly helpless

overall - from a not too serious gamer with a low quality gaming PC - when this gets incorporated into the main game ED will have such an amazing diversity of roles with your future career. I am impressed; overall it works the settlements are pretty detailed and good in scale. The Station bar has some great tunes. It is pretty easy to get to grips with the key binding. Space legs is gonna take this game to a whole other level.

My 1st mission, I was killed in about 40 secs of landing from the taxi - all I was doing was trying to help. A few issues with regards back pack and ship cargo. There are a few other glitches that I came across but this 50 hours into Alpha.

Well done Fdev - I can see where you are gonna go with this - I reckon down the road you will be able to build player bases... not large ones - with your paid NPCs protecting you...

Yeah thats what am saying its okay now, im simply pointing out in my own colorful way what i saw wrong with it...but you know me, I write aggresive. I know Fdev, in the sense that they wont put out total garbage to the actual public, the gameplay is gonna get really good those who ran horizon on ultra should have no issues. HOWEVER..I WANT TO SEE MY CARRIER GO THROUGH THE TUNNEL. just saying, not a horn and screen shake.

EpisparhYeah, I think I will wait next phase. Apex is boring time sink. We have just bare minimum of tools even if we get Maverick suit. Unfortunately, the mission giver are not aware of our limitations.

WHY I cannot use night vision when on foot, this beam light is so limiting.

Oh yes, can someone explain why a simple hand weapon worth more than few sidewinders?

Apex is boring time sink, but flying yourself in SC for 10 minutes isn't? How so?

Apex isn't a problem. The problem is a daft idea of choosing a system with 150K ly distances for Alpha test.

The problem with putting such a unoptimized alpha is that someone with very low specs can barely run the testing for the game. Im really trying my best with my shitty 550TI but just to go on a surface settlement I need to put my resolution to 1366x768 to even run at 20 fps. I was expecting the alpha to at least support the horizons specs, if they had put out earlier that the game needed a 770 to run at least ok I wouldnt had bought the alpha acess, but now since I bought im gonna try to at least test while running the game like dogshit.

While flying my own ship I can switch target location and even go back if I decide so. I have no idea who will use that thing once we get access to ships.

The apex ship doesnt even use 100% thrust in supercruise as you can notice how slowly it acelerates, this ideia for me is a 100% failure, lets see if someone makes it useful but for now its a nope for me.

- Night vision on foot, there might be gameplay reasons. Maybe it will be something a suit contains or you would need a tool or addon.
- the weapon costs likely aren't anything even remotely approaching final, they're probably just placeholders.
- I don't understand the Apex being a boring time sink angle. It's a taxi service that will be there for convenience for people that aren't interested in the flight sim aspects of Elite (which sadly is most of my friends)
- The system distances being multiples of 5 suggests these are being used as test scenarios. The primary purpose of the alpha is bug testing, not fun. It's a way for the community to get involved. It's a shame that we went from free alpha testing selected by lottery to paid alphas, but that has become a good way to raise capital and also eliminate some of the overhead that came with selecting who got keys.

If you fly your own ship, you can make mistakes. You can get interdicted. You can change your mind and fly to that signal source which just popped up. You're actually playing the game.

Apex literally locks you out of the game for the entire duration of the trip. It's basically an unskippable cut scene. They might as well show a loading screen instead, because nothing interesting or unexpected will happen anyway.

Ironically, the one thing that would make Apex useful has not been implemented: offline travel. Apex won't bring you to Colonia or Sagittarius A* while you're asleep or at work and your computer is off. The shuttle stops moving when you log out and resumes the flight when you log in. You can transfer modules and ships while offline, so why not yourself?

Those long Apex rides actually get in the way of testing. Instead of trying to break things in creative ways, we spend precious time in those shuttles and do nothing.

The current phase focuses on core systems and netcode and it just so happens that having a bunch of players using the taxi's all at once in the same instance, would be a good test scenario. Imagine if somewhere down the line you had an event pop up in one system and it was on foot on a planet, and a bunch of players using the taxi service all at once caused the server to crash. Testing that internally is difficult, but crowd sourcing it gets the job done. I highly doubt they would arbitrarily waste everyone's time.

Of course. But why make us spend less time actually test new gameplay on foot by sitting in a shuttle for 15 minutes?
A smaller system would be much better for using your time to actually test.

Apparently you dont know CEO's bottom lines and extravagant vacations. Someone gotta pay for that, and the girls on the tip of the boat on a thrusday afternoon while your employees break their back making a game, those get crowd funded. Have you not learned anything from Star Citizen...half a billion down and 5 years and still wasting everyone's time.

Star Citizen somehow makes more money than either Elite or EVE and yet it isn't released and it's hardly playable. It will probably end up being one of the biggest fail to launch titles ever.
