Elite roleplay: Off station

OFF STATION

Your ship, deep space, anything that is not happening inside the Citi Gateway or Ingaba...

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

In his fer-de-lance traveling to the term in system
"I've spent more than a day at that station my boss is going to kill me."
13 Dec 2016, 10:26pm
The doctor was terrified. He took another step back, as people wandering the dimly lit corridor scrambled.

"I...I uh, don't know what your talking about. L...lipstick?" He lied. His mind was in a whirl. How am I going to get out of this one?

"L..look, I think you have the wrong person...." He gesticulated. "I see that you....upset about something. But I assure you that I have no idea what your talking about.
13 Dec 2016, 10:35pm
"I'll tell you what. For every minute you spend gibbering abd pretending you don't know what I'm on about, I'll add a minute to the games I'm going to play with you." Lilith retorted, raising her gun and waving it at him, directing him towards a seperate corridoor.

"In all fairness Doc, there is just one thing I have to know for certain." She said, "And believe me, you will have to be convincing in your answer. So before I ask, prove you can be decent." She pulled out her datapad, and clicked it onto the 'Susan' pictures and turned it to face him while keeping the gun pointed squarely at his chest.

"Do...You....Recognise...These...Photos??" She said, slowly, every word dripping with the venom of a thousand King Cobras.
13 Dec 2016, 10:44pm
The doctors head was spinning, trying to weave a web of lies. How best to get out of this one.

I assure you I have no idea what you are on about. I've never seen those pictures before. He tried to put on airs of bravado, but inwardly he was terrified. He saw the woman gesture with the firearm.

"I'm not going anywhere with you." He said, "I have no idea what...who you think I am, and I have no intention of going with you." He thought about the man in the diner groaning in pain. No one came to his help, he doubted anyone else would come to his.
13 Dec 2016, 11:42pm
"Ok... Fine... I have to assume the worst." Lilith inwardly cringed at the thought of him being on her.... But she had to make absolutely certain.

"I know you are Dr Glaboski. I know you were my Surgeon after I was shot in Citi Gateway. I know you did a damn good job patching me up." She said those words kindly, with genuine gratitude, then her words turned back to hate, "I know you took photos of me while I was asleep. I know you dressed me up while I was asleep. I know you did it to other women while they were asleep. I have everything I need to have you locked up. Hell, I'm certain if I shot you right now, no one would give a flying FUCK!!! Even if they did, I show them what YOU did, and they'll brush it off."

She took a deep breath and continued.

"I just have one question that you absolutely have to answer honestly. You want to pretend you didn't do the photos? Fine. You want to pretend I have the wrong person. Fine!" Bile pooled in her stomach at the thought of the next question.

"How far did it go? Is it just pictures? Just make up? Or is there.... Did you...." *Breathe Lilith* "Have you raped me or any one of these women?!?!" At this point tears were blurring her vision. It still wouldn't be a hard shot. They were barely more than two arms lengths apart.

"Admit to the pictures and I'll believe whatever answer you give me. I'll even let you go, alive. But deny the images one more time.... I'm going to hurt you in ways you never even thought possible...."
14 Dec 2016, 2:50am
Dr. Glaboski was taken back by the insinuation of rape, and the look of bewilderment made that clear. In all of his time as a doctor, and the number of women he had played "Barbie cosmetic designer" with, the thought had never actually occurred to him to defile a women in that fashion. A quick inner study revealed the reason as to why, and he was about to explain when it dawned on him that that sort of explanation wouldn't matter anyway. People do crazy things, because they are crazy, himself included.

"Put the gun down," he said calmly. "My...um, hobby went only as far as the lip stick. I have....no interest in, um, the intimate fashion....." He let the explanation trail off. "It was just makeup." He raised his hands.

"So, you kill me. That would make you some sort of vigilante? It would still make you a murderer...." He said. "So, what do you want? Money? I have money." The doctor bargained with.

14 Dec 2016, 9:30am
Although she had no reason to really trust the man, Lilith still felt a huge weight lift from her shoulders. *Ok... We're getting somewhere... * she lowered her gun slightly, still pointing it in Glaboskis general direction and blinked several times to clear the tears from her eyes.

"Right. Ok... I believe you. I don't know why. But I do." She said gruffly. Shaking her head to clear any remaining doubts. It was clear that she'd never believe it one hundred percent, but somehow, hearing Glaboski say it overruled the part of her that refused to accept it.

"I've been called many things Doctor. Crazy... Scum....Murderer." she said those words lightly, as though describing a fond memory, "But I have to hand it to you, no one has ever said Vigilante..." Smiling slightly at the description, she had to admit it was sort of correct. What she did may not be justice in the public eye, but it did ring true with aspects of her life.

"As for killing you? That depends on what it will take to make you quit your... Hobby..." She growled the last word. "But I'm not unreasonable. So I'm prepared to strike a deal."

"There's three choices for you..." she held up her fingers to emphasise her point. "You turn round, get on your knees, I make it a nice quick painless death. Double tap to the temple ought to do it." She lowered one finger.

"You can try to run again. But nowhere will accept you as a Doctor, because I'll send the images to the entire bubble and all your previous Susan's will be out for blood." A fleeting image of an anfry mob with old fashioned pitchforks and flaming torches passed through her mind. "And I'll find you, and hand you to them." She lowered another finger, now only holding one up.

"Or, I pack you off to a backwater planet. Where you will remain. If you behave, I'll send you someone who won't talk to me and let you tinker until they do. You never know, one of them might be a woman for you to dress up again." She said with a sly grin. "But misbehave, and I'll forget to forward resources. Nothing major, just food and water." She finished by clicking her gun to emphasise the threat looming over him.

"You have ten seconds to decide, or I decide for you..." She said calmly, aiming the gun squarely at his face.
14 Dec 2016, 5:19pm
Prepared to strike a deal? The good doctor thought. With a gun in my face? Kill me now... Turn and run and get a bullet in the back... Or get exiled to a planet. He seriously doubted that that Lilith would make good on option C and send food and stuff, which would result in a slow death. He was even more convinced of this after she admitted to being a murderer. No, he knew it. His life was over. He wanted it to be quick and painless. He turned and placed his hands on the back of his head and slowly got to his knees.

If she is going to kill me, it would have to be right here, in public...

Now, it should be noted that some of the most fortunate people in the known 'verse have been gifted with an animal spirit. They believe that they have been imbued with their spirit animal's strength, guile, instinct and cunning. For the most unfortunate, they just look like them.

If one were to de-feather a vulture - a harrowing process that ultimately culminates in receiving a liberal application of talon and beak; and if your ever invited to participate in such an activity, my advice, despite how tempting the offer might be, is to polity decline and play Elite: Dangerous(TM) instead - and stuff it into a Remlock suit, it would almost pass as Rex Castro's twin.

The six foot seven inch man silently slipped out of the shadows behind Lilith. He stood behind her stooping over like some malevolent spirit, breathing quietly though a hooked nose. He pressed a laze-gun into the small of her back and spoke; the voice hollow and soft.

"Where's my money?..."

"Cash on delivery was my understanding. I pay for the goods when they're on my ship." Lilith grumped as she felt the metal push into her lower spine. "If you like, you can help bundle him on board, and then I'll pay you."

*This is ridiculous. He expected payment just for setting eyes on the man? Or was she expected to ask Glaboski politely to stand still while she went through her Datapad and enabled the credit transfer?* She frowned.

Glaboski was right there, within her grasp, no escape possible and yet, once again, he was slipping through her fingers. She had to put a stop to this here and now. Knowing full well Rex would pull the trigger if she made any attempt to move away, she opted to take the shot from here instead.

"Sorry Doc, might not be the Temple, but it'll still be a headshot." She said as she raised her gun slowly and took careful aim at the base of the Doctors skull.
14 Dec 2016, 7:03pm
A bony hand with spindly fingers snaked around Lilith and took hold of her hand, which was holding the weapon. The thin wrist wore a bracelet with a short beaded chain and some sort of metallic symbol dangling from it. A finger squeezed Lilith's.

BAM!

Dr. Glaboski fell forward with a thud, a small hole off center from the nape of his neck oozing blood upon the metallic floor.

Long stringy strands of greasy hair brushed against Lilith's cheek, Rex's putrid breath accosting her nostrils.

"Now, my money...."

14 Dec 2016, 8:07pm
Lilith stood slackjawed at what just happened. So dumbfounded, she barely registered the words whispered into her ear, or the mans breath ravaging her nose hairs.

It was done.

Glaboski was dead in front of her, payment for his crimes collected. In that moment, she was at a complete loss for what to do next. Until Rex appeared in her peripheral and realisation of the situation crashed around her.

"Wha?... I... Ok... Right, payment..." She said, still unsure how to feel. She holstered her gun and pulled her datapad out. Scrolling through everything on autopilot, she selected the appropriate options and typed out the figure. Her mind was that frazzled she accidentally entered a couple different digits. Transferring nearly 1,110,000 credits instead of the 1 million. Pressing her thumb to the pad to authorise payment before realising her mistake.

It didn't matter. As long as Rex was off her back that's all that mattered. Now all she had to do was decide what to do with the body...
14 Dec 2016, 8:35pm
Rex kicked the body over and squatted down. He plunged his hand into a pocket of his Remlock suit and pulled out two silver like disks. He placed one in each of Dr. Glaboski's eyes, and whispered, "Dare transitu ad inferos."

He looked up at Lilith, then stood. "A million credits in blood money..." Rex said in his quiet voice, and turned his palm up. The bracelet dangling loosely. "...Isn't enough...."
14 Dec 2016, 9:16pm
"Excuse me??" Lilith stood staring at his upturned palm.

*He has to be joking...* She thought, although the look in his eye told her otherwise. The strange display she'd just witnessed weirded her out slightly too. Dismissing it as just another odd quirk of the people of the Galaxy she composed herself.

"Well, it might not be enough as blood money, but I say that delivery of what is now damaged goods, hell... Actually it's destroyed... So we shall say that constitutes a discount. Hell, you just got an extra 100K for doing so." She practically shouted at him. "Plus, you just killed what was supposed to be a helpful future asset in my pocket. But you've robbed me of that now so... I guess really, you owe me money."

She kept her composure relaxed but had her hand ready to re-raise her weapon and defend herself if necessary.
14 Dec 2016, 10:29pm
Like the vulture perched in the withered tree, quietly, silently, and patiently waiting for the sick calf to bite the big one, Rex stood there, just as silent, just as patient, and completely unphased by the woman's outburst.

His posture was slightly stooped as he peered down his hooked nose at the woman. His palm still outstretched to the woman. Bio-luminecence tattoo, otherwise invisible, started glowing a faint blue; an image, exactly the same as the trinket dangling from the bracelet. A number of squares, inset into other squares in a geometric design. At the center was two ovals, set in a "X" like fashion.
14 Dec 2016, 10:47pm
"Uh huh... Neat trick... but unless you're gonna use it to summon demons or shoot lasers, I think I'll be taking my leave now." Lilith chuckled, taking one last look at Glaboski, "He won't be missed..."

With that she turnred to head back towards the stations docks. *Maybe I can meet up with Cait... If she still fancies that drink.* Although she decided against holstering her weapon, not trusting that this was the end of it.
