My origin-story is far from spectecular. I was born on Grandin Ring, a civilian outpost in the BD-00 632 system. My parents owned a small traveling agency there. But when I was only 7, our family-business went bust. My dad, a veteran Federation Petty Officer, suddenly found himself crawling back to the military, hoping to get a job. He eventually got a job as a recruiter. My mom, once trained as an astro-botanist, had to start looking for a new job as well, so we moved to the Hotel Vogelsang Orbis in the Akkadia system. We lived in one of the apartments on the outside of the main hub, with a view on the ring. I often dreamed of living in the green pastures in the 1G orbital gravity. I had seen other kids bike the full 4 kilometers around the ring through my binoculars. But even my mom just worked in the artificial UV growing-labs. My dad meanwhile traveled the Federation parts of the Bubble and was often gone for weeks to some place hundreds of lightyears away. When he was still a serving officer he headed a patrol on Borr A1 and, just stepping on a stone, he broke his leg. Turns out, his bones weren't strong enough for 2,76G. Rather than submitting to the month long bone-density treatment, he decided to take the offer of an honorable discharge. But he couldn't stop talking about the Federal Army and the time he served on the quick response team of the Farragut Battle Cruiser FNS Leander.
I wasn't the brightest kid in class, but I had my interests and at those I excelled. I was fascinated by fusion reactors and hyperdrives. I loved reading the Sirius Corp magazine and even followed some of the scientific papers from Sirius researchers. This lead me to studying the technical drawings from Thargoid technology. I never understood any of it, but it was impressive as fuck. Then I discovered the archeological research into the Guardian ruins. This just blew my mind. My whole bedroom was covered with posters of the ruins. I even had a photo of an active data terminal, signed by Ram Tah! My dad had him sign it when he was in Meene for his recruitment work. I was fascinated by the Guardians and often fantasized how their civilization would have looked. At the end of my highschool I read my first biography about the life of the Li family. Li Yong-Rui was about to become the Vice President of Forecasting and the book introduced the prodigy to the bubble. I was so incredibly inspired. A spoiled rich-kid, who put in the work: physics, politics and economics. I wished I had a brain like his. And he was philanthropic as well! I was ecstatic when he became the CEO of Sirius Gov and I still hope his vision will prevail over the ego-centric politics in the bubble.
After high-school, there was no money for me to study. My dad wanted me to join the Federal Navy, but my mom wanted me to stay free and follow my dreams. After some battles between my mom and dad, I got to work for my uncle, who was a small time miner in the LHS 1617 system. He taught me to fly in his Viper mark 3. I loved it. The first time we encountered pirates, though, scared the crap out of me. Having lived my whole life in little to no gravity, dodging pirates showed me how much my body needed to become stronger. My uncle had me train on the ice-moons of gasgiant LHS 1617 AB1. And once I got stronger we went up to the HMC's B2 and B3. Eventually my uncle took me to the earth-like planet B5. The landing fee was insane, but it was the first time I experienced 1,38 G and the first time I walked around on a planet without a helmet. It changed my life. It was only 2 weeks later that I outrun my first pirate piloted Federal Assault Ship with my uncles Viper. I had sore bones for weeks, but from that moment I knew I was going to join the Pilots Federation at Eranin!
I rolled out of pilot-school in a Pilot Federation Sidewinder two years later. I promised my sergeant I would return their ship within a month! And I easily did! As a freelancer I’ve done just about everything I could have dreamed of. I am now an Admiral in the Federal Navy, making my father extremely proud. I have moved tons of grain, my mom had a hand in, to famished systems all around Akkadia. And I ended up working with Ram Tah in deciphering and mapping Guardian Ruins. Last year I bought my mom an apartment in the Hotel Vogelsang ring and, although she’s still getting used to gravity, she loves the view on the coffee-trees. I also gifted my uncle a Type 7 and often help him out keeping the rings of LHS 1617 A1 safe. My dad however is to proud and declined my offer of paying for my parents living. He still travels the bubble and I sometimes meet up with him on some random orbital.
One of my biggest dreams once was to shake the hand of Li Yong-Rui and I got that chance last month. After returning from a round trip to Oevasy SG-Y D0, also known as Salomé's Reach, I had so much data to turn in, that I got honored by a handshake and a pat on the back from my idol. Luckily I still have dreams. My flying without flight-assistance still sucks and my attempts at killing Thargoid interceptors are still abysmal. But first I have to update my fleet. Some of the technology is outdated and I’ve learned some more about the components I need to implement. I’m far from being done with this galaxy. Let’s see what more the future has in store!
