Perseus Arm #1

03 Apr 2019Petrenus
After some incredibly busy weeks in the bubble where I went back to make some improvements to my trusty ship before heading out for the real exploration trip I stand here now on some moon on the edge of the human power struggle contemplating my plans and struggling with coming to a solution.
Being here reminded me of why I want to go out into the void and past the frontier for life in the bubble is quick. I enjoyed the comfort of the stations but I did notice running from errand to errand without even seeing the wonders of space. On my first trip beyond the frontier I did enjoy the quite pace and the time for contemplation. While I did make some credits and need workshops in the bubble to further my dream I am longing to go back to the peaceful darkness.
On the other hand the struggle with the Thargoids here calls for all hands on deck. I am a loner but it is nice to come back to somewhere after all. During my time in the bubble I did save almost 1500 refugees from two burning stations and felt helpful.
However I don't thing that the war is something I want to get involved with and who knows, maybe an answer to this dilemma is still out there?

In the end, the whole point of getting my wings was to explore and that is what I will do. After getting my thoughts sorted I did plot a route to my first target and did not look back. So this is the beginning of the Perseus Arm exploration as I call it. Unlike the first voyage I did some planing beforehand. My first stops will follow known routes and points of interest and I have the feeling that although beyond the frontier I will rather feel like a tourist. After these first stops however I will make my way to the Perseus Arm and follow it until the end.

In the Pleiades systems I did have my first close encounter with a Thargoid vessel. While following a signal on my scanners I found the remains of a battle and the wrecks of a federal gunship and a corvette. No Thargoid wrecks mind you. The ship still present in the system scanned me and then moved on to scan floating cargo containers. It was not hostile towards me at all. Why is that? Does it consider me no threat or is it generally peaceful? I heard rumours about there maybe being different factions and interests among the Thargoids as well? Who can tell but maybe it was just an explorer like me?

In new systems I take my time to also scan some moons to see if I can find some interesting signal sources on them. This allowed me to come across some biological phenomena that I had not seen yet with my own eyes.

My first leg led me to the Witch head nebula where I took my time at the science centre to look around and gather some materials as the system is full of moons and classed as a green system rich on all sorts of materials. Apart from Niobium, Polonium and Arsenic the vistas where really worth the visit.

From here I will travel on to the Orion nebula.
