White Dwarf Twist
Later on that evening, other commanders arrived and we all agreed to meet up at Blue Flash Sector GW-W c1-0 system, Geo Signal 5 on Planet 1 in order to perform a mass jump and on our way to the next POI. After a short break at the bar, I assisted with the maintenance of my Krait Phantom, stocked up with the required necessities and was ready to go. I cheered goodbye to my fellow friends and headed for the meet up. From there we had a countdown and off we departed along our separated ways.
I made it a point to fulfil my objective in ranking up in Exobiology so this voyage was going to have loads of landings and gathering of Bio samples. I headed first to the Crescent Nebula. I had a package to deliver at the Medusa's Rock asteroid station and had to meet up with a researcher. She was being recommended for the knowledge of how to effectively find those rare Bios. I was really looking forward to meet up with her as finding Bios was becoming quite a time consuming business. I requested permission to dock, and was greeted and taken to her lab. She was delighted when she opened the package as in it there were fire rare Bio samples and was eager to start studying them straight away.
After spending some time with her, showing me all the tricks on how to find those particular planets that have the most Bios, we went for dinner and a couple of drinks. From there I headed back to my ship and looked after an additional modifications to the fuel scoop to add more integrity for the next stop, KY Cygni. This is a red supergiant and one of the top 10 largest known stars by radius. Discovered in 1930, this star is not visible from Earth due to emitting a large amount of light in the infrared spectrum and the blocking effect of interstellar dust on the visible component. With a current radius 1062 times that of Sol, a ship moving at the speed of light will take more than 4.3 hours to make a complete pass around the star. Total luminosity is roughly 127,000 times greater than Sol.
From 10,000 light-seconds (or 20 AU) this star was enormous. The fuel scoop held well and was time to continue our journey. Next POI was Smojoo ZE-R d4-109 (Musica Universalis). I always wanted to visit this system. I heard about it from an engineer who was excitingly discussing with his friends about a gas giant with a colorful collection of six moons. But not any moons, The first moon is a large, landable, icy body that nearly touches its parent's rings. Next is an extremely rare, shepherd Earth-like. Outside the 3 rings of the gas giant are a gas giant and water world in a binary pair, a large Ammonia World with a bright, icy ring, and another gas giant with rings and a moon of its own. While I headed that way, I continued picking up Bio samples and after three days I finally arrived.
Spent a couple of days exploring the systems nearby. In my exploration trips I discovered a lot of systems, including those having Earth Like Worlds and Ammonia Worlds. I managed to score once again when I jumped to a system with a ringed Ammonia World and also found an ELW as well.
At this point I target the next Way Point - Blaa Eohn YZ-G d10-0 (Planet of Slightly Lesser Death). Along the way I scanned a lot of Bios which included all variants such as Frutexa, Bacterium, Cactoida, Tubus, Tussock, Stratum, Fungoida, Concha, Osseus and many their many variants and colours. The more I gathered the more I enjoyed it.
As I jumped systems, I also took the opportunity to snap in some photos of the beautiful sceneries you get from certain systems.
A couple more landings, to collect more samples. At one point I landed on a planet with Ammonia type atmosphere and the views were simply astonishing.
The craters of some of the planets were huge and some of them full of Biological life forms.
Only five more jumps and I'll make it to destination. The ship's scanners read that I was about to jump to a system having a White Dwarf as the main star. This might be quite deadly as the White Dwarf's exclusion zone is quite huge. Back in old days, we were taught to always enter the WD system at throttle 0%, ship stops, then turn 180 degrees & hit honk while moving away. That's what I have done and as soon as I got out from witch space, I was greeted with this view.
Like the infamous Monde de la Morte (Spoihaae XE-X D2-9), this system consists of a planet which orbits perpendicular to the core white dwarf's jet cones close enough to pass through them at either end. While not passing as near as the exclusion zone unlike its eponym, the cones themselves still create a severe hazard for landing which should not be attempted while the planet is inside the jets themselves. I managed to land on this planet and admired the views from there even more.
Spent some time there, admiring the WD's cones getting nearer. I realised I still had to hand in cartographic data as well as biological data. I rushed back to my ship and departed from the planet. There was a couple of Fleet Carriers in this system, and decided to dock on TFCS WINGS OF TIME. I checked that it had certain services opened, including a good restaurant as I was quite hungry and needed a good meal rather than the usual pre-packed lunches. I requested permission to dock, and handed in both cartographic data and biological data at the Vista Genomics branch. Other CMDRs showed up as well. Recognised them as they too were taking part in this expedition. I joined in for a couple of drinks and laughs. It was a long day, and the drinks didn't help either. Was way too tired and had no choice but to call it a night.
Little did I know that this particular fleet carrier was orbiting the planet, unlike other carriers that were orbiting the secondary star. The next morning I woke up later than usual. Might have been all those drinks, however something was not right. There was an announcement that the carrier's docking bays were shut and locked. I was eager to leave and start the day, however this incident meant that I would have to postpone my adventure. Got ready and out of my quarters to hear an alarm and clunking noises from the Carrier's hull. I headed towards the deck and everyone was in high alert. Although there was no danger, I realised that since the carrier was orbiting the planet, it got in the WD's jet cones. It was impossible to leave as it would have been sure death. One will get all sorts of catastrophic systems failures in a hazardous environment, getting overload damage to all your ship's modules. Eventually you'll get the ship's canopy blown off and the agony of dying without oxygen dangling in all directions.
The orbital period of the planet was two and a half days, so that meant I had to do something else waiting for the right moment to leave. After a couple of hours, there was another announcement. The carrier was now in a safe zone, out of the WD's jet cones and exclusion zone. Caution must be paid though as the danger was still very near. I geared up to prepare to leave and launched without any problems.
Got the next POI, and seems to be a long journey ahead. o7
