The Ring
We all enjoyed the company after spending so much time alone in the black. We decided to meet at System: Bloo Dryue ND-I d10-19 , Orbital body: 3A and Geological site 5. Although it was quite dark in that location, we still had fun racing our SRVs and acted like shenanigans. The time for the mass jump was announced and we all set in line and off on our separated ways.
I still had some things to carry on my ship, and I wasn't feeling quite well after bumping with others in our SRVs. Luckily the shield held. The next morning I washed my face, took breakfast and started planning my next POIs. Left Waypoint 6 and started heading my way towards my first POI of the week. I landed on an interesting system along the way. Wanted to check for any biologicals however it was a volcanic planet with no trace of life. There was a ringed blue gas giant in the background and couldn't help it but take a couple of photos to show my friends.
I left and proceeded to the Thraikoo PS-U e2-4 (DSSA Inverness / Thracian Nebula) system. There should be a DSSA carrier for refuelling and a short break. The carrier was originally commissioned as the IGAU Inverness, as a mobile research carrier that led an expedition spanning 50,000 ly, surveying nebulae and gathering biological samples from spaceborne aliens. Once the expedition was finished, the Inverness was assigned to the DSSA.
The Thracian Nebula, where the DSSA Inverness resides, is situated on the edge of the Perseus Crags, in a region where planetary nebulae are scarce. The nebula itself is a remnant from a supernova, and lit by two other stars in the system. A varied host of planets orbit these in various configurations, and the most notable one is a water world (named Skudra) that's almost Earth-like: the only difference that the temperature is two Kelvins below the minimum required boundary. A host of small landable worlds also orbit both stars.
While I was having a drink on this DSSA carrier, I recognised one of my old friends. This was way back before I started my combat rank. I didn't actually recognised him as his right face was totally scarred. He looked rather agitated and was wondering what brought him out here in the Vulcan Gate region. I remember he was a born combat pilot and did not took him long to become Elite. He was engaged with a lot of bounty hunting, and made himself quite a reputable name.
I called the bartender and offered him a drink. He turned around and looked at me and tossed a cheers. He looked rather boozed so I saluted him and left to my quarters. When I woke up the next morning, I started preparing for the next voyage ahead. I prepared a list of what I needed and started boarding my ship when I heard someone calling my surname Exupéry rather by my CMDR name. I haven't been called by that surname for quite a long time now. When I turned around, I found the same CMDR I met the other night at the bar. He was in a better shape, although not quite stable. We sat down and started by thanking me for the drink. He didn't actually recognised me. I'm sure he checked the logs from the carrier's landings and departures and he got to recognise my indistinctive CMDR name.
I mentioned our good old friendship back in the old days before the purge of Lugh. We fought side by side in the war. Lugh is an Independent system in the Core Systems within the Inner Orion Spur. It was the site of the infamous War for Lugh, a conflict in 3301 between the Independent Crimson State Group and the Federation over control of the system that the former eventually won. The war began with an independence movement spearheaded by the Crimson State Group that was opposed to continued Federal control, and the issue came to head after the movement took over Balandin Gateway. A subsequent independence referendum was declared invalid by the Federation due a majority of the local populace abstaining, and Federal President Jasmina Halsey deployed the Federal Navy to dismantle the Crimson State Group. Halsey's gambit failed catastrophically and greatly weakened her administration.
I asked him what he was doing far away from the Bubble and told me he was exiled from a lot of systems both in the Bubble and Colonia for something he did not know. He asked me for help, however since I was on my expedition I couldn't offer any help. I gave him a couple of contacts, perhaps he get what he needed. Departing from that system I had organised to visit a planetary nebula. This was rather interesting, it had a Neutron star as the primary star - Flyue Hypae OI-S e4-10.
I left that system and headed towards Waypoint 7 - Ovomly PD-R d5-3 (Ovomly Rings) - Located in the mysterious Ovomly region is a gas-giant with water based life with an enormous ring system of over 6,000,000km. The planet orbits a G-class star and actually features a double ring system, with the inner rings extending to 300,000km away from planet, and the second rings extending from 2,400,000km to 6,135,000km. As such, the gas giant offers a spectacular view of a thin, dusty disk reaching deep beyond its four moons. I had never met with a gas giant like this. Took a lot of time exploring around and had a hard time finding that spot to scan its rings.
Spent some time checking out the system especially the moons around the gas giant, when one of the carriers jumped in and called it a day. Landed, had dinner and retired to my quarters.
