SUMMARY: 3307-02-03

It all went belly up.

Although I wouldn't have known it at the time, the previous entry titled `LOG:
3306-06-25 00:00` marked a departure from reality as I knew it, into a new world
of pristine promise, extreme chaos, broken regulations and conflict. Perhaps I
never truly returned from my encounter with Cygni X-1. Perhaps, instead I
traveled further away from home than I had ever been before.

Now, my clocks have been acting up. Dates which once came easily require
additional verification. As you can imagine, this is wrecking havoc on all
manner of systems. Temperatures are wrong, velocities skewed, and vectors are
maligned. I'm having a real hell of a time making it anywhere fast. Luckily,
the caesium clock I have buried deep within a maze of corridors and tunnels
inside the raft is still fully operational. The issue now seems to be solely in
synchronization and upkeep. So why exactly are my other clocks wrong? How is
the atomic nature of caesium with respect to it's photonic absorption over time
not changed, while the material structures for all of my crystal oscillators
have? Perhaps time will tell, but for now I'm in a fuzzy state that's for sure.
I can't keep making the trek down into the bowels of the raft every time I need
to know what time it is!

Other aspects of my life remain the same. The school I was a part of as a young
pilot is still around and still growing. Their influence, centered around
Meliae, continues to be mostly stable. It's heartwarming to know that I've
helped with this, even if my contributions so far have been minor and mostly
invisible. I can hardly remember the early days, back learning the ropes. But I
know I wouldn't be where I am today without the patient teachers I had along
the way. I will forever be grateful for this.

I'll never forget my first expedition to a guardian site under the wing of a
senior commander. I wouldn't have know it yet, but this was first lesson. My
communication network was on the fritz, yet we still managed to meet up at the
site, and he showed me how to defeat the encounter with minimal effort. The
entire time I was stuck in my SRV, I was in awe watching the grace and
precision of his flying. I had clearly much still to learn. Unfortunately,
after a single round of the site, I assumed I was finished and headed back
home. It wasn't until after the 14kLy journey that I noticed a message asking
why I was leaving, and that more rounds were required. I failed this first
test, putting me squarely in last position among my class I'm sure. This has
been a position I've worked slowly to improve. I know I'm capable of much more
than I'm currently achieving in my missions.

I'm honestly not sure who from my class is even still around. People who make
it long enough in this place often like to change their names. I really wish
they wouldn't, but I understand the urge. I've taken to only remembering a few
of my fellows, hoping that they are enough... Perhaps this is a critical
flaw...

But, I can't reminisce for too long, I've got a lot of work to do now. Big
things, new things. Exciting times and all tat. Not to mention, I'm in the
early stages of planning a new mission! More details at a much later date.
Perhaps this next mission will provide the funds needed for critical battle
station upgrades. In addition to the endless list of cockpit issues, the
carrier itself could use some work.

Lastly, I feel my time with Sirius has come to an end. It's all show now, no
grit. Perhaps I'm just in with the wrong crowd, but I've had enough. I'm gone.
I don't harbor any hard feelings though, since I got what I came for, and the
professionalism was superb throughout. This leaves me in a strange new world,
going back to my roots. I have skills I've neglected which need
re-strengthening. So it's back to school for me!

Till next time,
CMDR Nix
