I was a console CMDR not long ago, I stopped playing the game after Frontier announced their discontinuation of console development. That event really stung, felt like a pet dying, if I had to rate it in terms of sadness. I separated almost completely from Elite Dangerous and the communityHowever, that was a while ago. Thanks to NVIDIA GeForce NOW, and Christmas sales, I was able to buy Odyssey and play it for the first time. And I've got to say, its pretty freaking great.
It seems to me at least that the performance issues that plagued the game during Odyssey's debut have been resolved, the gams, runs great, and is actually far more stable than it ever was on Xbox. Being able to get out of my ship and mope around Starport and outpost hangers and concourses adds so much subconscious depth to the game, the mission provider NPCS that sulk around loudly offering opportunities to do less-than legal work is funny, if not a little tiresome after a while. Engineer workshops are creepy, and the new detailed surface scanner system is confusing. Just the way I like it.
Oh yeah, also Thargoids. The Thargoid war is absolutely batshit-insane. As soon as I could afford a decent ship and make it out to the front lines without dying immediately, I started ferrying refugees from under-attack stations to rescue ships as fast as I could and with as many heatsinks as I could carry. (Sneak 100)
Once I got bored of that, I slapped some of those sweet enhanced AX weapons and some hull reinforcement packages and threw myself face-first into a Starport conflict zone in hopes to fend off the bugs and save the station that I was previously pulling refugees out of.
It. Was. Awesome.
Seriously, defending stations from Thargoids is one of the most chaotically fun experiences I've ever had in a video game. I went from never downing a single interceptor solo throughout my entire carrier to pasting the freaking things. As of writing this I've brought down around 30 Cyclops interceptors. and literally hundreds of scouts.
It also appears that FDev buffed the rewards for smashing bugs, because I've made more money faster than even the LTD gold rushes of old can even hold a candle to. (Then again, I'm not exactly the worlds' most proficient miner. Or combat pilot, for that matter...)
I took a break from breaking bugs to unlock some engineers and pimp my rides. As of writing this I just got back from the crystalline shard sites and unlock prof. Palin and engineered my Krait's drives to grade 5. After that, I think I'm actually gonna go back to ferrying refugees, because I want to up my federal Navy rank, and doing this is a lot less mind-numbing than the usual methods...
Anyhow, o7 to anyone dumb enough to actually read this, fly less than safe, I'm from Buenos Aries, and I say kill em' all.
