"That shipment of battle weapons you brought will take us a long way in our current conflict. As indeed that full load of Bromelite we asked for. You're doing us a great favour, commander" - the man representing Kistsi Confederation, the only Federal faction in the Rainbinan system smiled. I do the same and quickly glance at Tom, who nods and says:
"If you need anything else from us, don't hesitate to ask. We're planning to stay longer in this system and as we hail from Federal Space ourselves, it would feel wrong not to help"
"Well, the Confederation is indebted to you. As we speak, our forces repel attacks by Rainbinan Systems against this very installation" - he points behind him at the window overlooking the landing pads - "we'll take any help we can get".
"We'll do what we can" - Tom assures him as we shake hands.
(20 minutes later)
I stretch my legs and take a sip of a cold beer, looking at Tom with a slight smile. He gesticulates widely as he speaks, his eyes shining with excitement. And he is right to be excited: in the last few weeks since we started to extract deep core minerals, we got ourselves a decent Keelback each and a hefty sum of credits on our accounts. Something we would never have dreamt about while we still lived planet side.
"Bro, this place is perfect. No established pirate factions, Federal presence, stations close to the system's sun and the ring dotted with hotspots more dense than anything I've seen..."
"Not that you've seen much in a month since you started as a miner" - I interrupt him with a wry smile. He doesn't miss a beat and continues:
"...and on top of that, well stocked shipyards one jump away and refineries paying above the galactic avarage. What more would we need?"
"Well..." - I say, still smiling - "for starters: an HQ, and this system indeed looks promising. Also - a registered company, which costs 10 million credits. And then some people to help us run it..."
"Our own company!" - Tom's eyes go even wider. I love my brother - "Yes! How shall we name it? Bailey Mining? Bailey Corporation?"
"I like it.. but it's not good enough. We need something more catchy. How about: Deep Core Mining Incorporated"?
Tom sits there for a moment, mulling the name under his breath. Then he nods.
"I like it. Deep Core Mining Incorporated it is."
