Tiffany's vacation

03 Apr 2022Tiffany Yür
Tiffany said there was so much she had done for the benefit of the company during the past fortnight, that she was in need of a vacation. I have to admit the people of the company could have done more to help. When she left she even said try not to throw away money she had gained, gathering experience in interstellar trading. Indeed, by the books, it looks like she was on the move up to 15 hours/day! But we weren't idle either, we did use the fast freighter to supply the far out in-system colonies with essentials and geologic equipment/stabilisers etc. it maybe they get their businesses going on eventually. It is surprising how easy it is to get these contracts when you have a modern ship. Tiffany of course topped our earnings by taking the massive Type-7 and using it for food/drinks out, competing in interstellar trading on silver/gold/bertrandite, doing something else and bringing home equipment needed on the planet and the station.

So off she went, said that she's done enough. She took the Diamondback Scout, had it outfitted with a business cabin and left to relax a bit. Though of course relaxing involved some business too. We were busy finding pilots for the security force of Yür Freight, and found out many people have been dreaming of fighting in space. So we had them get familiar with the basics and sent them out fighting the good fights with the Alliance police. Some of them did not return. It looks like the Eagle Mk.II is a deathtrap for inexperienced pilots. We'll probably have to shelf the model, for the time being. Respecting Heylindh's memory, we though bought ones to replace the destroyed ones. Hannüs even had a hand at outfitting it better, but to no avail. The ship would need a better power plant to get a proper shielding, but then it would just be another Viper Mk3, he said. It is fast around the corners, he said, but how many corners do you see in space? Maybe it could be some sneaky decoy vessel in an asteroid field, but that's about it.

Other fighter vessels and pilots have fared much better, but still, no one from our crew is competent enough to fight in a skimrish involving more than a few fighters. In fact, I've been saying to the pilots, 'run away, if you don't have help, and someone surprises you'. This has saved a couple of lives. But, there have been some worrying revelations about the pirates hereabouts. Some of them fly Chieftains, Pythons, Federal Gunships and one pilot even reported seeing a criminal in a Type-10! Now how on dirt have they got their hands on those, I wonder? They must have connections to pretty high ranks in military. Most though are flying Imperial Eagles and other such lighter vessels, so we probably can handle them, but to go against a warship with a single fighter is foolish, and I've discouraged pilots from doing that. Everyone has not taken heed. They're probably the next ones on the list of missing persons, I'm afraid.
