Generation ship Phanes

Imagine traveling on a generational ship only to find out your mission ended hundreds of years ago and that the Command crew was lying to you the whole time. That is what happened on the Phaes. A few hundred years into their trip, the command crew told the passengers that a plague had wiped out the core systems and that they were the last of humanity. After an encounter with an aging Admiral one of the crew found out that Command was lying and had been doing so for generations because the planet they were sent to colonize was uninhabitable. A coup had taken place way back then and the new leadership pressed on. The crew member who made the discovery told a few people and the news divided the crew and passengers. The two camps went to war with each other.
I wonder what the winner decided. Did they turn back or press on? The logs do not say.
