The massive ship looks like it was painted red, a closer look showed that it was covered in dust thrown up by the nearby planet. Several people were killed horrifically. A dog, that was smuggled onboard illegally, was blamed for the killings initially. Based on the logs recovered it was not a dog but rather a serial killer who felt they were on some holy mission. They hunted the people on board.
