As the ship neared its destination a manufacturing defect was found that prohibited the ship from stopping. The chief engineer came up with a way to land the colonists without stopping, only catch was he had to stay behind to initiate the launch of all the pods. The plan went off well only one pod had an accident. The Chief Engineer remained at his post to allow the others to colonize a new world.
