I'm pretty confident when I say that the thought process for pretty much every bad decision I have ever made has begun in a bar.This time it was "Rachel's" on Nexus737, Aztaln System or as I call it ..... home
Yeh she was kinda cute if that's how you like 'em but she did have an easy smile and a look in her eyes that just made you want to believe her.
So I showed some interest in the "Hot tip on making your FSD go like it's on LSD"
Her voice dropped low and conspiratorial and she whispered "Guardians"
"Oh FFS not that old tale?"
"No honest, they're here"
And she showed me her tab that displayed a system map of a spot not too far outside the bubble where "For certain" there were these "crazy ruins that when you landed they cough up details of technology we can only dream of"
-sigh-
I can still hear my voice saying " OK here you go" and giving her the creds for the data stick
We finished our drinks and chatted a bit, then I made my excuses and went back up to "Tannhauser Gate" to turn in, doesn't do to stay in a gravity well for too long. Maybe she was disappointed I went alone, I wasn't
So next cycle I set out, I decide to take "Tiny Dancer" as she's little and quick, has all I need onboard. I had my SRV which I needed apparently and I fitted some guns and a point defence system. First time ever, can't say I like it but if I'm heading into the unknown to annoy some ancient aliens I want something to wave at them and pretend I'm going to shoot.
15 jumps later and I'm gliding in on a "Guardian Site" the DSS had picked up.
-Hey that kinda looks like a c...... -stop it-
Landing went OK and then I 'm out in the SRV and looking for ....... no idea.
10 minutes or so of tooling about and generally running into things there's this horrible scraping sound and out of the ground comes this column, glowing and looking a bit ominous. I shot it, as she'd said and sure enough up goes the column of light.
Then a counter starts, she didn't say anything about a counter .... ????
OK, so it's either a count down until everything blows up or until it switches.... BANG

WTF?
There they were 4 floaty angry looking things shooting God knows what at me
Up to the turret and for the first time in this life I fire a gun, take three down but the SRV is not looking good.
An added bonus is that the missiles they keep throwing at me are being swatted by Tiny!
Small mercies!
Not to waste the opportunity I quickly scoop up a bit of the wreckage and high tail it back to the ship.
With no fuel and low ammo I've no option but to find a nearby system for resupply, fortunately, there is a Mega not too far away.
An easy run and a swift landing, manual of course, then straight to the Maint. Bay to restock and talk some rubbish with the fitters.
So once I'm all kitted up and ready to give it another go.... not sure exactly WHAT I'm going to do, but only one way to find out.
This damned drive better be bloody spectacular!
I might just pop to the bar before I go .......
