Aitvani Rebellion: Foolish Sacrifice

10 Oct 2024Argon Shadowstar
As expected, Imperial forces have successfully defended Potocnik Platform, directing the majority of their navy to the small civilian outpost. The rebels couldn't even get close, not that many of them tried. Instead, they spread themselves across the system, inspiring the oppressed citizens to rise up and tear down their local Imperial administrators. Now, as the Imperials celebrate their success and the smoke clears, they realize their mistake. Potocnik was merely a distraction. The balance of power in the system has shifted. The Order of the Imperial Knights now faces a difficult situation if they are to hold on to their control of the system. Their allies in the system are in disarray, unable to resolve their differences and come to an agreement regarding their strategy, the Emperor is reconsidering her trust in the contingent she sent to secure the system, and rebel strongholds are fortifying on every populated world. Despite Imperial control of the orbital stations, the inability of Imperial command to decide on an effective strategy has rendered these stations useless in the conflict.

I must admit, I am surprised. Given the effectiveness of the Imperial response elsewhere in my experience, I expected more of a fight. It is unlike them to be so easily fooled into defending such a worthless target, and to completely ignore what was a fairly obvious push to capture the system's military infrastructure. Someone must have convinced them that there was something on Potocnik that was more valuable than enough armories, military stockpiles, and weapons factories to outfit an entire army. Well, whatever it was, I suppose we will see if it truly was worth what they gave up for it. I expected a protracted campaign, but at the current rate the Order will be driven out of the system within a week. Perhaps they figured out that there are other systems they should be defending, or their enemies have pushed hard against other fronts. But then, why did they leave so much in Aitvani, and focused that force on the defense of a marginal resource as well? Perhaps this is merely a symptom of the bloated, inefficient, and lazy Imperial Administration.

I must say, I am starting to think the Empire will not last long when the Great War begins. I suspect even the Alliance will last longer.
