I'm a big fan of that "slidey-ness" and work it into my piloting and targeting. Even in other "flight combat" type games -- which I find myself playing less than Elite these days -- I prefer quick and nimble to slow and steady. (It's also part of why I enjoy CQC so much.)

As far as strategy for when I'm flying the Mamba (and therefore while bounty hunting): I browse potential targets, settle on one (or a wing of 'em), get close enough to K-Scan each one, then tuck in behind whichever ship I'm going to target first, ....

Line up my Plasma Acc, and fire. That usually wipes out NPC shields instantly so, while still sitting right behind them, I place a couple solid frag hits. For smaller ships they're toast by now. For larger ones, they'll usually zip away or try to. I'll try to stay right behind them and pepper them with frag. If they manage to get out of good frag range, I'll remind them that I have a long-range Plasma Acc.
If I'm feeling particularly mean (or if it's a big ol' ship with lots of teeth), I'll target their subsystems before I fire my first Plasma. Usually I go for their Power Plant.

When I end up in surprisingly long engagements, I'll switch tactics to targeting them as if they are Thargoid Interceptors (i.e. orbit technique and target their subsystems as if hearts). The engagements aren't usually long at all; I'll cycle through that main strategy above ("As far as strategy... " to "... long-range Plasma") a few times for multiple ships in a few minutes; each ship probably a minute or less from opening salvo to pop.

I certainly appreciate your civil tone and not escalating the situation it further.

I will only add that even when no rule is clearly broken, I may take measures against certain kinds of behavior when I will feel it's "too much" or it's happening for too long or that it harms the discussions in a longer term. It's like being in a club here - you can drink for free, you can eat for free, you can even puke into the corner sometimes and I will clean it, but when somebody will start to shit on the tables, break the furniture or annoy the bartender and guests too much, then they are shown the door.

As far as I'm concerned re shield engineering, I'd go with reinforced/hi-cap on prismatics (though old me apparently decided to thermal resist engineer one anyway, for a Corvette), purely for the hitpoints, and thermal resist + either hi cap, lo draw or fast charge (depending on preferences and/or setup needs) for bi-weaves, to take better advantage of their faster recharge times through having high resistance numbers across the board (though it will end up slightly weaker to kinetic damage than a reinforced shield, NPCs have a great enough weapon variety that I've never found it to be a practical issue).

... I have no experience playing with the standard shield generator, however. So I can't provide any particular views on that one. Of course, thermal resist is one of those things which resists the plasma accelerators less well but generally against PvE opponents I haven't found a meaningful difference between both for bi-weaves (but it's probably worth going reinforced no matter what on prismatics if you have enough shield booster slots available to balance the resistances out better, and achieve similar numbers to thermal resistant). And it might be a no brainer for PvP, not that I engage in it.

Also still have a plan to throw together a Mamba myself once the Titan bonanza has concluded (even if Thargoids are very liable to stick around past it). Probably also with frag cannons, though I'm not quite sure on exact specifics of the weapon engineering (or what to do with the C1 hardpoints, not going to have Powerplay modules - by choice - and I can't say I am a fan of rails).

How do you handle the Mambas slidey- ness. Do you boom and zoom ala a P-38 or do you have a strat that helps keep it on target. I think the mamba looks so cool but the bad handling keeps me away
19 Nov 2024, 10:47pm
Got it. Check out my Mamba, "Piece-Maker". It's one I've built for Bounty Hunting; you can see how I've got the frags built and the shield gen too.
I'll point out that I handle bounty hunting differently than assassination. Bounty Hunting, I'm usually hanging out somewhere (i.e. Nav Beacon) and just scanning for targets. Assassination, I'm hunting someone specific (whether in a wing or not).

For my assassination build, you'll want to see my FDL, "Thrill-Seeker". It's great for quick single-target kills. I don't like to stick around long if the target has friends though. It's also a decent PVP build, based on one in-fact.

I am absolutely certain you have better things to do with your time than chase ideologs on a spaceship forum. I'm sorry you even have to bother. The best I can do is assuredly not engage even with the continually quoted text bur seriously I keep having to deal with it over and over and it's exceptionally off putting. We're just trying to play a space game not browse infowars here.
Super, thank you.

Go kick rocks already. I know your type, skirting the edges of rules of public places (such as this forum) because anyone who value their accounts can't tell you honestly and directly what they think of you and your perpetual provocations. So my options here are a bit restricted too, but nonetheless. You aren't going to get neither the validation nor the sense of superiority you desperately crave for, except for the stale inflatable imitations you've created in your own mind. And you've already lost, by the simple fact of persisting with the buffoonery you constantly put up, as if another try of stroking the flaccid ego and shoving it into other people's faces could somehow change it. Nobody wants your special opinion on politics, your exquisite real life experience and whatever else you may bring to the videogame forum in your frantic attempts to make you look a more developed and successful person. Videogame forum of the game you terribly suck at. Because it's just like that. You suck.

@Artie: Sorry if even that is too much. But that's the last input from me on the topic of this guy, I promise. Because, as far as I believe, by simply ignoring him, we won't teach him anything, and he would keep spreading that nonsense. Imagine a bunch of new players joining the forum who don't yet know that this person is mostly on ignore-lists of many discussion participants, he'd just switch his attention to them.

Bounty hunting and assassinating high threat targets in wings. I probably will try an all frag build, with high capacity (for duration) + screening shell. The DPS is insane and should allow for quick kills if you cozy up close with the target. Shields I have a 6c bi-weave reinforced multi-weave, but probably will high-cap it. I also run two SCBs in the next two slots.
19 Nov 2024, 10:16pm
I just helped someone start kitting out their PM2 last night. For shields, they preferred bi-weaves with G5 Reinforced; I suggested Hi-Cap Exp Effect. They're happy with them in a trial run, but debated switching out the engineering to an A rated shield gen with thermal resist and force block. I think that's not as good as an A rated with Reinforced plus maybe multi-weave.

The crux of the debate came down to what the shield is blocking. They hoped it could block most/all damage types as well as possible. Whereas I'd suggest stronger overall (Reinf+HiCap) and then enhance the armor itself to catch anything that leaks through.

Then again, it really depends what you're doing and who you're fighting. What would be your typical target for your PM2?
19 Nov 2024, 10:04pm
Question for the engineers who fly a Python Mk2: what is your preferred combat loadout and why? While I've settled for the Mandalay and her "perfect" combat loadout (imo), I am constantly rearranging my PM2. I'd also be interested to see how you "shield" her up (because her armor is not so great as far as I can see).

Why not throw this person out? He's clearly stirring up the pot constantly, using dog whistles as Emily said. It's also getting stressful for you, constantly looking if no one is overstepping just because of that one guy who has become a nuisance over the past few weeks. Again, If I could hard block him, I'd happily do it, even if this means not seeing any replies to him. But as long as that is not possibly and we cannot jointly agree to all put him on our ignore lists, this will continue to be a mess.
19 Nov 2024, 8:54pm
About the quotes being visible in replies despite blocks - it's a bit problematic, because when somebody will break the quotes structure/markup in their response, filtering the content may also remove a text that was supposed to be visible (was not written by the blocked user). So I am playing it safe here.

About the last page of posts - it's obvious that your disputes can be hardly settled and in general it's rarely the best idea to take personal disputes to public (so I think it may be a good idea to simply clean the last page up on your own). Also, it's pointless to ask about politics here, because as I said in another thread earlier - an unwritten rule is no politics here. And another "unwritten rule" or custom here is that being rude never brings any positive outcome for the poster, just saying.
Hello, it's possible if the kills weren't recent or were recent, but you didn't import your game data via "Import game data" button on your Commander page. Although I can take the general number of all Thagoids killed from the journal for the Xenohunter medal, it cannot be used for the Thargoid war stats (and it also doesn't differentiate between scouts, interceptors, etc.) and importing your game data regularly is the only way to have such numbers here.

Thank you for the report. The supposed behavior is to set 0-0 (for having just the experimental effect or so there), but I have fixed the issue with the other values like 3-3 set and also added the current grade 5 option, so it will work with anything now.

I think its distance( over 150 LY) and their sale value

Sound like bastard and a puppet. But all politicians are, so, she is just one of them.

"Nakato who" is also spot on.

It's kinda funny, actually.

Releases messy update, fix/balance em them later. The good old frontier we love.
19 Nov 2024, 5:54pm
Someone apparently spotted a “Salvation Lives” tag on a station somewhere (probably in the Bubble?) the day of the update. I wasn’t sure whether intentional or just because Frontier reused the same code as for those older ones.

Because they’re looking at how it performs in the wild and are doing some balancing. Or exploit fixing, as is the case with a power data duplication exploit.

I’m sure you would, just make sure it is a target you and the Thargoids agree on. Like a place full of Azimuth idiots, or wherever Archer has scurried away to after Hudson got booted out of the office.

Here you go again with that whistle thing you hear everywhere.

What do you even mean by:

sexism (you keep talking a lot about it, every chance you get)
alt right dog whistles
and other troubling things.

and btw, I was asking about YOUR political BS. So, stop playing the "victim" here.
I gave off a thoughtful sound.

“Hm… maybe, I do not, want to get close to it, then. Symbols, remind me of Guardian. I… think.”

It also reminded me that I still had that suspicion this woman had something inside her that hadn’t been shared to me. Maybe I’d be told within time, but it currently still created doubts lingering at the back of my mind.

Stopping where I was, I waited, to continue observing where this went. At least there was some space to give this device a wide berth, since it was… rather unlikely to respond positively to Thargoid things in me. And I didn’t feel like getting zapped or roasted by radiation.

Don't... just... don't!

...

No, of course go for it!!!

Are rare goods merits based on the tonnage you trade, or the profit from selling the goods? It seems to me that if merits are generated based on the tonnage delivered, changing that to being based on profit might be a better fix than reducing the availability of goods. Further reducing the profit would then slow the merit progression from rare trading if that is the end goal.

Hi, Read that Raxxla theory. Talk about a deep mission/objective (especially if it would work).
Elite continues to impress when it comes to it's depth.

I love "Patreus has silly hair"
In general I enjoy the effect of PP2 on stations, with the holos, the flags, the pro and anti graffiti. It makes the places feel more real, like it actually is not the same place everywhere you go. Hope that more changes are coming (and not just cosmetics).
19 Nov 2024, 4:37pm
I certainly hope you're right. I was sincerely looking forward to powerplay 2.0 to breathe life into this title and give a more overarching campaign, which I think it certainly could have done so, and still seems at some level to be frontier's attempt. Like, I gotta believe bothering to make new factions and advance the story is an attempt to move things forward. I'd just like them to perhaps look at what changes are being made a bit more carefully.
