General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

Lambast's voice mixed with the digital voice of her counterpart pierce into me causing me to blink vigorously. Looking around at the confused patrons I feel a cold shill of embarrassment wash over me. Typically I wasn't embarrassed by mental outbursts but this one felt different. It was colder more intimate to me. I wrap my arms around my legs pulling them closer to myself. A few tears roll down my face.

"Sorry.... I..... I.."

I try to form a sentence but the words hang in my throat. All I can do is offer a nod. I stand from the bench slowly and gather my bearings. I let out a shuddered breath and look at Lambast.

"If I can help, I'd like to try. I'd like to consider him a friend though I hardly know the man."

I knew it was unlikely she would accept my offer for assistance but I still thought it a good idea to at least try.
21 Dec 2023, 4:23pm
"You should do as you will. I have other duties I must attend to, and a family of my own to visit"

The duties were listening to reports from bounty hunters and expert trackers sent out to deliver presents to Lambasts' hard to find friends. Once they had done that, she'd employ them to help with finding the missing misogynist.

"It would appear you have as much information about him as I, m'lady. Vodan Hooder, and Ina Muir are my best leads. If you find Muir, ask her to contact Conut Goodness, and should you cross paths with Hooder, the Count would welcome your call. After all, he literally has an army at his disposal. That should strengthen your negotiating position. Festiv wishes to you"

Lambast curtsied to the wet faced Silvia, and left.
21 Dec 2023, 4:59pm
"Yes take care. Enjoy the holiday season." I offer a courteous head bow to Lambast and watch as she departs the bar.

"How curious. Creamy's family is searching for him too. Did Vodan really just hand him over to Vengerfield? Did creamy go of his own free will? What happened inside that Maelstrom that so drastically changed the out come of Creamy escaping from the man he wanted nothing to do with." I think to myself as I head out of the bar.

One thing was very clear and that was Creamy's disappearance was not his doing. There was likely no further information I could gather from Citi Gateway unless someone left a bread crumb trail unlikely as that was. Hell even if he possibly left a ship here it could be useful.

"June I need you to find me a station access terminal."

"Certainly give me a moment. Ahead and to your left you'll find a service corridor. It will request a level 3 clearance to access." June responds.

"Level 3!? Where the hell am I going to get level 3 access?" I say in a subdued and exacerbated tone.

"You'll have to clone a security profile, but don't get caught."

"Son-of-a.. fine I'll find someone."

After long time of somewhere outa bubble, I returned to here, to Citi Gateway in Inara system. I did few duties and when I log off from today's duty I headed up to bar.

30 minutes later

I have slowly entered bar and headed to the bar counter. Bartender came to me: "What would you like, Commander. Or detective, I should say?" "Detective, not in duty" I answered and continued: "One big Lavian Brandy to my mug." Before I have finished sentence, I 've put my Hutton mug on counter. Bartender reacted: "I 've seen that mug here. Aren't you Adam? Alright, one big Lav' brandy to Mug o' Pain" he said with quite joking voice. "Thanks, and yea, I am Adam".

I took my mug with brandy and had look around bar. It was quite different than from last visit. Yes, some months had passed. Suddenly, my look stopped on kinda dissasembled piano and woman with bright red hairs. But she was somehow familiar. So I slowly begun to walk to her. "Excuse me ma'am, haven't we met somewhere?"

But there was no answer as woman without words . quickly dissapeared in crowd in front of the bar. "Strange" I thought.

Not for the first time Descartes slips into a corner and watches, listens...

Scouring the mission and adverts for 'posions' or emloyment she hopes to find something iteresting and ordes a big drink. Smiling to herself, her imagination starts to wander in a familiar direction.

As I enter the bar, an advert for the new Python Mark II is playing. What an ugly ship, I mutter. If I want to use something without style, I might as well strap my bum to a container. The Mamba, on the other hand, what a beauty she is. Maybe someone can work on her FSD and bring out a new version of THAT ship.

Sitting down in some cosy cushions while taking a sip of my drink I wonder whether this stuff tastes good because it's expensive and you have to talk yourself into its price, or whether it's expensive because it tastes good. I'll probably drink a few more to get to the bottom of it, I think to myself. I take another sip and let my gaze wander round the bar, nodding amiably to the unknown figure in the far corner.

Not much going on here.
11 Feb 2024, 9:49pm
The bar looked empty. Maybe not busy due to the recent Thargoid resurgence around the front driving people off again, but I'd be hard-pressed to accurately guess. And I wasn't here to bother myself with that anyway.

Ordering a simple, light beer, I dropped myself in one of the free sofas, not particularly caring about its location - though it happened to be a corner with good viewing angles. Nobody I knew was around, though that likely had more to do with me not knowing anybody around here, and it being my first visit. While keeping an eye out for anyone interesting, I straightened out a fold one my red jacket, with elbow-length sleeves, above a snug black shirt, with black-red cargo pants complementing that same look and color pattern.

"WOOaha! Myra stop, u cant come in! (Growl) Nnnzzz-No! Ouch." I smack the left of my temple with my palm corecting a short in my nerve matrix. "I have GOT to get this fixed!" I walk through the door entering the dullest looking day in the bar wondering whats up with all the quiet time.

"Hmpf... this place looks like it could close down any minute.. how sszzADah!." I stop a second looking around scanning if no one saw or heard my glitching remarks. I quietly take a seat by the bar unzipping the top half of my suit for better a more comfortable feel. "Excuse me tender. May i please have a nnnOva" I smack the side of my head with my palm once more. "UGH!..One nova please yes. That will be all thanks."

Sitting.. i start looking around to see if theres a juke box but im not realy noticing anything. "What do i have to do to get szzsome mmzz..." I put my hand on my glass picking it up giving it a slight swirl" Screw it.." I down my glass and order another.

Jim, having checked in with one of the merc handlers to see if there were any interesting side jobs, stopped by the Galactic. It might take a few days for the handler to drum up work Jim found interesting enough, so that meant a few days of trying not to get into too much trouble while his current employer was laying low.

With people, governments and corporations always wanting to stomp the snot out of one another it would not be difficult for the handler to find a short term merc contract. The difficult part would be finding something Jim was interested in. It was not that he had any particular limitations on what he would do for money, but whether or not he thought a job would draw the attention of the Valkyries. Given that his main job was pretty much working for a Valkyrie, a side job had to be pretty damn interesting for him to sign a merc contract.

Of course, Jim often used the term "interesting" for jobs that others called impossible, crazy, or death wishes.

Though he was not in a combat suit -wearing common street clothes, jeans, a compression shirt, worn leather jacket, and boots- Jim was confident enough to feel at ease, even given the problems he'd been previously involved with on the station.

Taking a seat, he called out to the bartender. "Shot of whiskey and a beer."

Descartes slips into a corner and watches, listens...

She wrinkles her nose, still getting used to the air-conditioned odour of other bodies after spending so long alone in emptiness. Now desperately needing company, but feeling out of place and wondering if it could be found here, tries to order a drink. Unable to relax she decides that her flightsuit is too tight, (The only person to put on weight during weightless flight?). "I should go and warm up, work out, and rest".

Casting an eye around sees that there are more customer about already and decides to look around a little longer. Ever hopeful.

Jim found it odd drinking in a bar without someone to trade shots with. Normally, he'd be downing drinks with a few other mercs on R&R who were working the same contract, or with a few others waiting for the handlers to find them decent jobs. But being as he was the only one working for the Valkyrie, and no one was at the handlers when he showed up, here he was trading shots with himself. And that just would not do.

To remedy the situation, Wild Jim closed his eyes, did a quick turn and determined that the first person his eyes focused on when he opened them was going to be his drinking buddy for now. That person just so happened to be Decartes. "You!" Jim bellowed with a broad grin on his face, pointing at Decartes. "You look like you could use a drink, so I am buyin' you one! Or maybe two. Probably a lot more."
15 Mar 2024, 1:02am
I carefully approached the supposed bar, stopping just outside the entrance. I felt quite unsure about coming back here, actually back here, and double-checked... some things, both to be certain and as a comforting gesture.

The hood I wore, largely obscuring my face up to the eyes, sat quite well. And the holographic disguise still worked, too, to obscure my actual form, or shape, rather... so those unfunny looks I'd received were not down to it. Maybe because it still showed the snow white skin and how my eyes resembled a deep blue crystal more than an organic structure. I observed my reflection, or that of the very lifelike hologram hiding me, in the glass opposite of this position.

"You look fine. Just go in.", I muttered to myself.

Wasn't very busy inside. A few people, two of them positioned a bit closer to each other. A woman with the face mostly hidden, and a somewhat sturdy man. Nothing for me to get involved in, so I located a nice, dark little corner in which to go to observe. Unfortunately, I was not used to walking with a different figure visible to me than my actual body, and I bumped into one of the random bar-goers by accident... because it looked like a clearance that wasn't there existed.

"Oh, sorry."

Just about avoiding a blush, and bumping into someone else as I took a step to the side, I quickly went over to that, largely empty, corner, and watched. At least I hadn't frozen in place from a memory returning to me - someone vaguely familiar could have caused that, but no one like that was around here, right now. And the disguise also prevented a rather obvious imprint from being visible in the couch when I saw down on it, keeping an eye on people. So far... so good.

"Ow!" I exclaimed, and looked at the person who'd bumped into me. She wore a hood, which I found odd, since it wasn't exactly cold. But, oh well... maybe it was just an odd fashion choice, or some kind of privacy thing. Who knew, really.

I might have thought more about it, if the bar hadn't been the way it was. Instead of normal customers, it seemed it was more of a gathering place of loners. The place was quiet, and not in a good way, either. It was more the kind of quiet you had to work yourself into, rather than the kind of whispering quiet that is normally found in bars. There was no talking at all. Only few people were in the bar, and those mostly kept to themselves, rather than mingle.I got the feeling that it was one of those places you found at the crossroads of things - somewhere close to where most of the interesting things were happening, but still a little bit off to the side of the action. I guess you'd call it a liminal space, if I had to put a label on it, since it was sort of a transition between the 'everyday' and the 'extraordinary'.

I was trying to be quiet, I really was, but the whole bumping incident was just so very awkward that I ended up blurting out loud: "Felt like a damn Type-7 bumping into me...", I paused for a brief moment while eyeing the stranger up and down, "... well, or maybe just a Hauler". I meant well, I swear. I was just trying to be friendly. It had been so long since I'd been in a social situation that did not involve outright shooting at each other, and my head was a little messed up because of it. Anyway, I decided it was best to ignore what transpired and about time to get up and order myself another drink.
15 Mar 2024, 3:27pm
BAM! Jim smacked a meaty hand on the bar. "To hell with buyin' one drink! A goddamn round for everyone, Bartender! Whatever they want. Whiskey. Beer. Rum. Some froo-froo drink."

Wild Jim had definitely reached the level of blood-alcohol content that pushed him into that happy-generous phase of drinking. What the hell use was money if you did not spend it, and what better way to spend it than to elevate the blood-alcohol level of others?
15 Mar 2024, 3:57pm
The loud man was... interesting. His callout for a round of drinks occurred just as one of the staff had come over to me, but I politely waved away to indicate I wanted nothing at the moment. And that seemed to make them glad - the uncomfortable gazing at my face due to its odd color, or lack thereof, was kind of hard to ignore, even when it was the only part of my body visible, everything else covered by clothes, or gloves. Especially important for the right hand.

Equally, I kept an eye on who I'd accidentally bumped into, partly for judging how they'd react beyond that... embarrassing remark. Embarrassing for me, at least. I'd created an unfortunate situation for myself by sitting down, because standing up would reveal that kind of noticeable imprint my body'd make on the soft couch. As would moving aside if I had to make space for someone else next to me that wanted to sit.

'Maybe it wasn't the best idea to sit instead of standing in this corner', I thought. 'Or coming here at all.'

But I was, kind of, committed now. Unless I got a longer moment where no one paid close attention. And just walking right out again would look equally weird, so I just... stayed where I was and tried to relax.
