It... It happened. Today was the day Salvation had decided to fire his 'Proteus Wave'. The operation was broadcasted on Galnet throughout the Bubble, and at first, it seemed to have worked. The Thargoids in the system simply shut down, no life-signs. Of course, things went horribly wrong almost immediately. I'm not sure how it could have happened, but the waves function seemed to have been reversed, bringing Thargoids back to life and short-circuiting everything that was even slightly based on Guardian technology. I'm thankful I listened to my gut and was not in the system when it happened.
There are already all sorts of theories and whispers going around, though there's no clear majority opinion yet. All anyone, even the staunchest anti-xeno people can seem to agree on, is that failure was inevitable after all. I'm sure soon enough anyone who's publicly admitted to being part of Wych Hunt or Operation Breakwater will be offered up as scapegoats and be hunted down.
The Thargoids are more pissed off than ever. Going to HIP 22640 seems to be a death sentence, even to commanders who specialize in xeno-hunting. Yet many still go, to dig through the wreckage to find answers, to help in evacuations, in fighting Thargoids... and so will I. Helping with evacuation is a secondary objective though, even if for once my sponsor encourages helping others. I want to meet with a Thargoid myself, and see if gifting meta-alloys works in being spared. I still believe communication is possible. I still believe... I still hope an accord can be reached, eventually.
