CMDR PAUSANIAS - THE SHIP OF THE MIND EXPEDITION - DAY 75
23 Oct 2020Pausanias
A PLANET WITH RINGS SO DISTANT I COULD’NT GET A SCANHi Cmdrs,
I decided to stick with the Cutter tonight and do some more mining. I sent the Carrier on ahead then set up the 26 jumps required to catch it up, looking for Icy Ringed planets as I jumped.
In my search to find a Tritium hotspot I came across this planet. As I approached I thought I could see a vast ring of rocks but very thin, turns out I was right! If you look you can see the planet with a set of rings, 4 moons outside those rings and then a vast set of rings beyond that.
This planet does have a set of close in rings but also this second set of rings which I measured as being 7 light seconds away from the planet. I couldn’t get a scan on them because I was too far away from the planet for the probes to deploy, if I went towards the planet where the probes would work they wouldn’t reach out far enough to get the outer rings. If there’s any secrets in this rings it’s going to remain a secret.
In all the excitement I nearly missed that the inner rings did have a Tritium hotspot so I dropped in and mined a full 266 tons again.
Other notable planets I’ve found tonight have been this one, a High Metal Content with this huge crater on, the impact must have been catastrophic, you can see the tendrils of the ejecta strewn across the planet surface and a really high central peak.
This next image was taken at an Ammonia World, it shows an ocean, that looks like Earths Mediterranean Sea, with a strange shaped land mass encroaching into it which is also reminiscent of Italy on Earth. You can also see this planets atmosphere very clearly on the horizon.
This last one was just a Class 1 Gas Giant but I thought I looked interesting, especially with the huge, dark brown polar cap, strange that the rest of the planet has such contrasting colours and detail.
I’ve still got 11 jumps to do to The Carl Sagan and I’ve dropped into a system with nothing but the lonely Sun. I have therefore just moved a safe distance away from it and bought the Cutter to a standstill in mid, open space. I’ve shut down most of the ship systems and will use one of the many rooms on the Cutter for a bedroom for the night. I have my sleeping bag with me, I don’t travel without it.
