CMDR PAUSANIAS - THE SHIP OF THE MIND EXPEDITION - DAY 88

AN ECLIPSE ON A PLANET, A CLASS 3 GAS GIANT AND A BEAUTIFUL WATER WORLDHi Cmdrs,
The moon I slept on last night, when I started my day today, had passed behind it's planet and I was in eclipse. I've experienced this before, it changes the whole dynamics of the moons visual appearance. Let me show you.
First off, it becomes eerie, obviously it’s dark but look at they way the distant landscape has changed, it’s like each ‘tier’ of the landscape as you get further away has a distinct different grey haze, much of the detail seems to disappear.
This image shows the Asp, with the lights on, illuminating the surface with detail whilst the eclipsed area is hazy and unclear.
Then at higher altitude the moon looks different too. As I left I took this shot, it shows the haze again and if you look closely at the craters they appear to ‘glow’ as if they are full of dense air.
The whole thIng is quite an experience.
Before leaving altogether I manoeuvred the ship around and took this image of the planet causing the eclipse on the moon.
I still had 37 jumps to the Carrier to do so I made a move. On the journey I came across this Class 3 Gas Giant which looked different to a lot of the others I’ve seen so it gets imaged. These things are vast.
This was an unusually coloured High Metal Content I came across too. Look at the colours on this one, again I’ve not come across many like like this. That blue could be an ocean.
After mapping it I took this image as I left.
I’ve carried on jumping as much as I could today, it’s exhausting all this exploring, so I looked around for somewhere interesting to land. The system I was in had nowhere to land so I picked this Water World instead which turned out to be impressive. I can’t land there so I did the next best thing and dropped into orbit instead.
I took these two images, one as I arrived and the other after powering down the ships non-essential systems.
It’s a lovely looking planet from up here.
I have 11 jumps left to The Carl Sagan but I’ll get those done tomorrow. I’m looking forward to seeing the crew and having a damn good shower, I think I’m starting to smell in this suit.
I’ve got approximately 50,000,000 in scan data to hand in so far, plus what I find in the next 11 jumps.
Total Carrier jump distance since 10th August: 35,500 ltyrs - (Personal note: 69 jumps on 2 Nov)
Total Ship jump so far: 60,496
Total planets Level 3 scanned: 20,901
Total exploration data: 545,000,000 credits
Total systems with my name on: 3337
The Cutter is now 26,214 ltyrs away from Sol!
Distance to Beagle Point: 48,293 ltyrs
The adventure continues . . .
