CMDR PAUSANIAS - THE SHIP OF THE MIND EXPEDITION - DAY 89

RETURN TO THE CARL SAGAN & WATER ICE GEYSERS ON FIRE!

Hi Cmdrs,

After being out in deeper space for quite a few days it was great to The Carl Sagan again. Blaine welcomed me with a cheery message telling me that I was welcome to come aboard.

Once the Asp was secured I went down to my Stellar Cartographer, Lourdes Tran, she was chuffed to bits with the 51,500,000 of exploration data I handed in, just see how excited she looked, she could not contain herself.

I’ve had a shower and a change of flight suit and rather than hanging about for a few days I’ve decided to crack on by sending the Carrier on to its next destination. Having used up all the reserve tank I had to transfer about 120 tons from the stock we are carrying which totals around 23,500 tons of Tritium, I intend to replenish it as soon as possible so I’ve switched to the Cutter to mine.

Having scanned the system the Carrier was in I’ve found a couple of interesting things, the first one was a Tritium hotspot around the first ringed planet in the system, I say first but it was 124,000ls out. Many people might not bother at that distance but I went out to check it out, however, I also went for the second reason, there was a moon showing Geological Signals not far from the Tritium planet. I thought I’d check out the Geological Signal first, mine tomorrow.

Totally coincidentally this moon was in eclipse again. Just look at the visual effect you see as I descended down to the moons surface.

Once on the surface I took this image. It shows the planet with it’s rings (not the Tritium planet, the next one along), you can see the Andromeda Galaxy, the Galaxy itself, the Cutter parked on the surface and the SRV standing next to a Water Ice Geyser.

This one is inactive, at the moment, they tend to fire up and then burn out. Here are a couple of images of the burning ice geysers spewing gas. I doubt it’s water though, it’s the wrong colour for a start, the moon is supposed to be volcanic so it could be sulphur vapour pouring out.

This one is particularly violent and hot!

There’s 6,500 ltyrs to my next waypoint but I’m stopping here, on the moon, tonight and tomorrow I’ll go back to the other planet and get mining before chasing after the Carrier.

Night Cmdrs.

Total Carrier jump distance since 10th August: 36,000 ltyrs - (Personal note: 69 jumps on 2 Nov)
Total Ship jump so far: 62,422
Total planets Level 3 scanned: 20,901
Total exploration data: 596,500,000 credits
Total systems with my name on: 3349
The Cutter is now 26,123 ltyrs away from Sol!
Distance to Beagle Point: 47,809 ltyrs

The adventure continues . . .
