CMDR PAUSANIAS - THE SHIP OF THE MIND EXPEDITION - DAY 117

04 Dec 2020Pausanias
FORMORIAN FRONTIER REGION ATTAINED, RINGED EARTHLIKE & SILICATE MAGMA LAVA SPOUTS

Hi Cmdrs,

Today I was left with just 13 jumps to finish crossing The Veils Region of the Galaxy, which I have done and some.

On the journey I found this planet with Sulphur Dioxide Gas Vents which I went down to investigate. I didn’t bother landing as I can seldom collect materials if I do. However, I did wash the ships cockpit canopy glass with the steam emanating from the vents, worked a treat!

Upon arriving in the system where The Carl Sagan was parked I found an EARTHLIKE WITH RINGS a message shot off to the Codex upon its finding. What are the chances of sending the Carrier to a system with an Earthlike? I’m pretty sure this is only the fourth Earthlike I’ve found on this journey.

I then went to the Carrier and handed in 10,000,000 credits for the data for the journey thus far. I then set up the next jumps for the Carrier and the Asp that would take me into the next region of the Galaxy, the FORMORIAN FRONTIER REGION.

Once underway it wasn’t long before I entered the Region . . .

I reached the Carrier again without much happening or worth exploring and handed in a poor 4,000,000, set up the next jump sequence and set off.

I found a planet with Silicate Magna Lava Spouts which I thought might be worth having a look at, and took this image of a huge crater on the way down to the Geological Signal . . .

Having driven around for a bit I took this image with the Asp in the background. Although there were materials around the site there was nothing I could pick up, so I left to carry on the journey. Note here how well the tyres on the SRV are looking, considering how many kilometres they’ve done they still look top notch.

The next time I got to The Carl Sagan I handed in a respectable 12,000,000 credits and whilst there transferred another 500 Tritium leaving 16,000 in the main cargo holds. I sometimes think it’s going down too fast, so I redo my calculations and I’m still getting the same answer, yes I can reach Beagle Point on it, and, get back part of the way before it runs out.

I set off again intending to get to the Carrier once more today, but, I haven’t made it. Although it was only 8 jumps away I just found lots to scan and map on the route. I have about 13,000,000 already and still have at least three jumps to go yet. I decided to drop into orbit around the last planet I mapped, this High Metal Content planet . . .

I’ve set a new target system within this region of the Galaxy which is quite a way off to the West. I’ll go that way because there seems to be plenty of systems in that direction. I will then turn North to Beagle Point.

Night Cmdrs.
