NOTABLE STELLAR PHENOMENA TODAY - PROBABLY THE MOST ATTRACTIVE DAY OF THE JOURNEY TO DATEHi Cmdrs,
With just 76 jumps left to the current target system I've made good progress and found some NOTABLE STELLAR PHENOMENA of my own today for the first time on this journey. Finding these inspired me to take a few steps backwards and check out some others which have already been documented in the Codex.
After only 1 jump I found MY first NOTABLE STELLAR PHENOMENA of this whole journey, two of them in fact in the same area. This first one is a field of RUBEUM ICE CRYSTALS, these two images show the approach into the field.
Each of the 'spires' has a pink dust around it and as you move further into it and nearer the spires the ship temperature drops to 1 percent! You can just see the temperature gauge in this image.
It was unfortunate that this Phenomena was in the shadow of the planet therefore a lot of the images were only lit by my ships lights if they were not glowing under there own incandescence.
This next image is of a ROSIUM SILICATE CRYSTAL only illuminated by the ships lights.
This is in closer still, they look like the lead from pencils.
This is a third image of the ROSIUM SILICATE CRYSTAL with the RUBEUM ICE CRYSTALS as a backdrop.
Now fortunately I found TWO Notable Stellar Phenomena in this system and the other one was in full sunlight so I was able to get a completely different set of images for those and they turned out to be different colours, not because of the lighting, just different. Look at the change in colour here . . .
These, once scanned, turned out to be different types of crystals, these were PRASINUM ICE CRYSTALS, slightly different name to the other grey ones.
The spires here had a green mist but the same characteristic of cooling the ship right down occurred again if you went right up to them. I took this image of the field, a wondrous vista.
This image attempts to show the ice forming on the cockpit glass when close to one of the spires.
Having been inspired by this find I checked out the Codex to see if there were any Phenomena nearby, there were, but unfortunately I'd already passed them and they all seemed to be localised in one area of the region. However, one of the nearest was only 9 jumps backwards in the Asp so I've left the Carrier where it is and have flown back, it was well worth it, just look at this, it's organic, LIFE!
This was a first find for me that just happened along the route I was taking to the known one from the Codex, pure luck, but nevertheless my find.
This is the ROSEUM SQUID MOLLUSC from underneath.
and from the side . . .
How do I 'know' it was alive? I accidentally bumped into one, it let off this really painful noise that sounded a bit like a whales cry, really pitiful. I know I shouldn't have but I flew up really close to another so it was rolling around on my cockpit glass and it kept letting out these painful cries, BUT, at the same time it was taking my shields down! To ZERO, then 3% of my hull had gone, I moved back quickly before sustaining any further damage! The Mollusc continued to move away from me under the momentum I'd given it with the ship.
So 'YES' I am concluding they were living beings.
I then carried on to the original Codex found sighting and discovered a field of two types of Ice Crystals, ROSEUM ICE CRYSTALS and FLAVUM ICE CRYSTALS, again just look at their colourings.
I took a close up of each of them, the FLAVUM ICE CRYSTALS . . .
and the ROSEUM ICE CRYSTALS . . .
This is where I'm stopping for the night, what a view! I think I shall sleep well tonight amongst these glorious spires. Good night Cmdrs.
Total Ship jump distance so far: 102,599 ltyrs
Total planets Level 3 scanned: 34,455
Total exploration data: 1,046,500,000 credits
Total systems with my name on: 4066
My Ship is now 50,830 ltyrs away from Sol!
Distance to Beagle Point: 16,420 ltyrs, I went backwards a bit didn't I.
This has been the best days exploring I've had in six years of being a Commander, easily!
