Elite roleplay: Citi Gateway

CITI GATEWAY

The Orbis station is a center of activity. Within the station a myriad of places can be found.
  • The Warrens: Where the poor plebs of the station live. It's is a breeding ground for the most unscrupulous. Keep an eye on your wallet when traversing the corridors of these areas.
  • Habitation Complex: For those workers and pilots that can afford it, this area provides closer to 1G gravity for more earth like living.
  • Commerce Divison: and Administration Where the larger corporations make their home. Station administration can be found here.
  • Industrial Complex: Where industry manufactures their various goods.
  • Entertainment: District Bars, theaters and night clubs, tattoo parlors and other establishments can be found vying for a commanders credits in exchange for a bit of fun.
  • Station Security: A high tech brig used to house law breakers until they can be tried, and or deported off station.
  • Medical Ward: Where commanders can get patched up, enhanced, or fix existing cybernetics.

General Roleplay Etiquette:

1. Control only the actions of your own character(s). (AKA: God Mode)
This doesn't matter how small the action is, even if it is as simple as scratching their nose or a direct reaction to something else that just happened. This applies to everything from casual conversation to full blown fight scenes. If you'd like someone to do something specific, PM that person, however keep in mind they are completely within their rights to say no. Especially if said action is inappropriate to their character and/or circumstance.

2. Don't brute force your way into another persons RP.
Approaching with a conversation starter is fine, or indeed some other small action. However charging in, guns blazing and disrupting the flow of another person/pair/groups conversation/arc is about as rude as doing so in real life. If something is going on that you'd like to participate in, be subtle about it. Put out a gentle hook for someone to take, but again, be aware that said hook may not be taken. If you fear it was simply unnoticed, PM the person or people it concerns. Or even leave a message in the OOC forums.

3. Good grammar and spelling is preferred.
We're not asking you to be perfect, but please at least demonstrate willingness. no1 iz gna tak u srsly usng txt spk. There's a wide variety of people here, many who speak English as a second, or even third language. There are even some with varying degrees of dyslexia and/or likely other issues that affect spelling/grammar. We accept them all here. However, people who aren't accepted, are those unwilling to accept polite correction. Remember that even a small thing like the placement of a comma, or the wrong use of there/their/they're can completely change the definition of an entire sentence.

4. Accept constructive criticism gracefully and politely.
If someone spots an issue with your writings, they may wish to help you improve that writing. They may do this through PM or even publicly air their thoughts on the OOC forum. If they have taken the time to be polite and explain what is wrong with your writing, the best way to behave is to respond in kind, using the same manner they have approached you with. It means they have taken an active interest in what you have written and wish to see more. Basically, you have a fan!

5. Don't take the actions or opinions of things done IN RP, to be directly relevant to the writers thoughts or opinions.
Basically, if some ones character calls your character a jackass, it doesn't mean the writer thinks you are a jackass. It's a ROLE they are PLAYING. Watch a movie. The argument between the characters isn't an argument between the actors involved. The same applies here.

6. It's not a popularity contest.
Your RP might be bustling with participants. You have 3 people off station in a fire fight, while another 2 are infiltrating the darkest areas of the station, meanwhile a group of 4 others are tracking your movements in an effort to stop you. Good for you, I'm sure it will be a thrilling read! But you know what? Sometimes the absolute BEST work, comes from two RP characters having a simple heart to heart. Both are valid, both are great, but NEITHER is categorically better than the other. Period.

Inara RP Etiquette:

1. Respect the setting and rules of the universe.
Inara is an Elite: Dangerous 3rd Party Tool. The RP Forums are set in the Elite: Dangerous universe. Elite: Dangerous has rules, as any fictional universe does from Lord of the Rings to Star Wars, or Game of Thrones to Star Trek. If you intend to RP within the Elite: Dangerous universe you are bound by the history and rules of that universe. Simply put, this RP forum is bound by the same rules as the game, so if it can't be done in the game, it is not permitted here. This applies to things from a 50Ly Jump Range on a normal, unmodified Sidewinder, to the destruction of entire stations.

2. Respect the characters created by others.
We have a wide variety of characters already here. It's expected that some will be similar, just as it's expected that two characters will be vastly different. Opinions of each persons character will naturally be varied, but all are valid provided they follow the rules of the universe. You are allowed to interact with, or avoid interaction with, any character in the RP forums. But you have no right to belittle others for their creation. You are not an authority figure on writing, nor are you directly affected by another persons imagination. You might not like it, but you MUST respect it.

3. Be caught up on current events before joining in.
You need basic things like character descriptions in order to interact with them. You also need to know what's going on in the surrounding areas. This is simply because the people you are hoping to RP with, might be gearing up to something that you might not want to be part of. Or simply that the most recent post, out of context, could leave a different impression on the goings on than if you gather that context. We don't expect you to read every single post from the beginning of the forums, just enough to get that basic understanding.

4. Either subscribe to, or frequently check, the Roleplay: Q&A and OOC forum.
People may be discussing something relevant to you there, or even discussing you directly. Perhaps someone asked what the general consensus on the existence or non-existence of a certain object. Or we're just chatting about random gibberish. Either way, be aware of it and use it. If you're unsure about something, such as how guns would look and or behave, or even the music selection, use the OOC forum to ask. We don't have all of the answers, but the collective knowledge and logic usually allows us to overcome an issue and come to a decision on what should be allowed. Frontier Developments, and even David Braben himself, don't have the answers to every possible question that can be asked.

5. Large Scale events exploding out of nowhere are a complete no go.
We get it. Everyone wants their character to be noticed and for people to be tripping over themselves to interact with them. In some audiences, an introduction involving you blasting in for landing in a fiery wreckage of a ship, before cart wheeling out and sword fighting 35 Ninjas before whisking off with the local celebrity for a glorious night of passion, is in fact, cool. This is not one of those audiences. It is generally considered better to build your character up slowly over time. Eventually, you might even have a legitimate excuse to fight those Ninjas. Maybe even with other RP participants by your side.

6. Perfect characters are boring.
The point of a character arc, is that it is in fact, an arc shape. One who is morally unquestionable, fully kitted out and an infinite fountain of knowledge, cannot go through an arc. Give your character flaws. Be it a tendency towards befriending the wrong people, or a bad knee that frequently gives out at inopportune moments. It gives readers something to latch onto and empathise with. You can give your character exceptional capabilities at something, but it requires balance. She's a damn good pilot with no equal, but can't drive an SRV for peanuts. It can lead to some very interesting moments between characters, be it heartfelt or comedic.

Other Notes:
It should be noted that there can be exceptions to these points. For example, good grammar when a character is speaking is actually rare. Few people in real life actually speak with perfect eloquence after all. Or previously arranged actions during a fight scene, such as someone stumbling back after a punch. What's key to remember is context.

All in all, remember this is purely for fun. We have some seriously talented writers here, and others whose writing history starts and ends at high school. But many are willing to help out in whatever way they can. All it takes is that you ask nicely.

Also keep in mind that many people who RP here, also have logbook stories related to the character, or characters, they portray. If it looks like there's an "in joke" going on that you're unsure of, it's probably in those.

In fact, some users have even gone to the trouble of creating "alts" to RP with. If you read back far enough, it's usually pretty clear who has and hasn't, and which ones are the "alts". It's therefore not unheard of to see the apparent seizing of control of other characters. If you do spot one, point it out in the OOC section. If intervention is needed, it will be sorted quickly and (hopefully) politely.

Most, if not all RP participants here have Logbook stories pertaining to their character(s). These are for the reading pleasure of anyone who wishes to do so. While it can be useful to read them in order to gain a bit of backstory on a character you wish to interact with, it should not be assumed that your character shares that knowledge. Within the E:D Universe, these Logbooks either don't exist, or are private diaries kept by the characters. Either way, without explicit statements to say otherwise from the writer, your interactions should reflect that your character is in the dark about any information you, the writer/reader, have gained from reading the stories.

"Yeah, totally," I allowed myself to relax completely, leaning my head back, stretching my legs forward and keeping my eyes closed. "Had enough of that shit, you know... Now, a couple of beers once in a month, tops, if it's cold and tastes good, and I want to let that pressure off."

"And you're right, there's no harm in having fun that doesn't harm anyone..."

For a second, I found myself lost in thoughts about the place and the moment. It felt... The same liminal, interim stage, but in a completely pleasant way. Limited yet timeless. We weren't home, but this place allowed me to feel free like I was home. We were in the middle of a starport, yet isolated from the rest of the world. About to go and subject ourselves to a danger, yet safe.

"Seize the day, they say... I'd say, seize the moment. This moment. Think of... What you're thinking about. Memorise it, to the slightest detail. Let it be one of those new positive memories. And, furthermore. Keep it... As a proof. That it's possible to reach something pleasant. To think about it. To be in that moment."
17 Aug 2023, 1:06pm
“I’m thinking about… what we’ll have after this.”

I accompanied the statement with a certain, naughty look. Meowers had little idea what kind of monster she was about to unleash.
17 Aug 2023, 1:26pm
I turned my head slowly and looked at Kasumi, eventually meeting her eyes.

"Keep thinking," I winked, "The more you think now, the better it will be when the time comes."

Thinking of the time... My communicator emitted a beep of an incoming message, and just a few moments later, Kasumi's wrist computer made a similar sound.

"Hm. Looks like we should go... And do a thing," I said, reading the incoming text. "They're about to move out. We should head to the docks, prepare everything we need."

Hey just as a bit of a reminder for when things get hairy. Aventus is going to pose as the medical transport supposed to pick up Silvia and Melli. I will be approaching the carrier from out of sight of the bridge. I'll drop a recon limpet and patch the signal over to Kasumi for her to utilize if and when she has a chance. I'll be boarding the carrier and heading straight to engineering to disable the main thruster and fsd. While down there I will be authorizing docking for both your ships and activating the turret defenses ensuring to target any and all vessels that are not registered to either of you. The two of you will be meeting up with Aventus and his squad in the hangars at which point we will all converge on Melli's location. Next target will be Silvia.

I stood up slowly and stretched, raising my hands above my head as if trying to touch the ceiling.

"...And it's always good to know you have something to do after the hell."
17 Aug 2023, 1:40pm
“Already? I thought we’d have more time.”

My tone was almost disappointed, greatly enjoying the conversation.

“Going head first into hell aside, I’ve already been working on… ideas. I guess that’s one good thing about never stopping to think.”

*quickly flies over the message from Venus, with the intention to read over it in detail later*

“I guess we should head to our ships, then. Come to think of it, I haven’t been told how we’re going to get there.”

I opened my messages and sent a return message to Venus.

Are we taking my carrier or flying manually? I know which of the two is faster when we’re going close to the Pleiades.

And thanks for the reminder.

- Kasumi

"Ah. It always happens that way," I scowled sarcastically and spread my arms, "As soon as you start enjoying something, it ends abruptly. Maybe it's another challenge of that 'controlling your own life' thing. Not letting any shit to spoil your vibes."

"And yeah, ask about that. How should we get to that system. Riding a carrier will certainly give us more time to prepare everything we need," And I gave Kasumi another unmistakable look, "And think more of what could be done once we return."
17 Aug 2023, 2:50pm
“I have asked our blue-haired Imperial friend. Still waiting for an answer.”, I replied, shrugging. I was not in a rush yet, knowing we - hopefully - had two days to get there before the handover. Though part of me began to doubt if Azimuth would stick to that schedule, looking at recent developments.

“Come to think of it, what’s our backup plan if Azimuth decides to show up sooner rather than later?”

I noticed Meowers’ distinct look and responded with one in kind. There was a certain anticipation in my tone when I replied, vocally.

“I think you already know. And we can talk a little more on the carrier if we use it and it’s preparing to jump. I have a personal cabin onboard there, if we need somewhere more private to… plan things out.”
17 Aug 2023, 3:44pm
I stretched again, raising my hands as high as possible, and sat back on the bench, but in a less relaxed manner. Still positive and contented thanks to a fine meal which might've looked less like a 'meal' but more like a 'feast' to an external observer, though ready to leave this place and walk to the hangars, both physically and mentally.

"Hmmmm... We have to observe that system and surroundings anyway. We have enough ships to set up patrols, I think, just one ship per system since those aren't supposed to fight on their own, they should rather retreat and send a signal to everyone in our group. And boarding party troops, including us, should maintain readiness all that time," I lit up another cigarette, shortly after finishing my previous one, like, making up for being in a presumably non-smoker café. "Without staying awake through every single minute, of course, since we need to be in a good shape."

"Speaking of shapes, literally..." My tone slipped towards something less strict and serious. "I'm not exactly sure what's on your mind, but, you know what? Keep me intrigued. Makes things more spicy. Like that."
17 Aug 2023, 5:00pm
“Oh, you bet I’ve got some surprises in it for you …”

I left the - very teasing - statement to linger in the air between us. It felt almost like the anticipation on both our sides was filling the air with static. Then, I switched back to a more serious tone.

“I got an answer from Venus, anyway. Says we’re going to use the carrier. I’ll just ask her what system she wants it parked in - I assume not in the same one as Diaz’s, considering that it would be quite easy to notice coming in. Guess I’ll also ask if she has any ideas for any unwelcome visitors of the Azimuth kind, too.”

Right. Uh you said you had a carrier well that seems the best choice considering my cutter alone is not set for long distance travel. Just need to know what the name is and where it's located. Oh you wouldnt have happened to see Aventus would you? He missed gear inspections and is supposed to be performing his pre-flight checks. No one has seem him since the mission brief.

I decided to answer the message then, not having anything else to immediately say.

Look for the Normandy, callsign T9K-13T. It also has a ‘YKE’ squad prefix, if that’s any more use. I think I have it parked somewhere around this system?

Oh, and I saw your guy. Happened to drop by the same place we were eating. You might still find him there, or he’s on the way to his ship now.

And before I forget - need to have a destination for my carrier. I assume somewhere far enough that Diaz won’t find it quickly, but close enough that we won’t have to jump far. A Corvette or FDL aren’t exactly known for their stellar jump performance.

I hit send and quickly added a second message.

Also, if Azimuth show up ahead of time, do you have any ideas for that?
17 Aug 2023, 10:18pm
We can discuss that in private and in person. Open net is not ideal. Ok well could you send Aventus back to the docks? He needs to do his pre-flight checks. He is also not answering any messages from anyone. Makes sense though if he's got food in front of him.

*quickly reads over the message from Venus and sends a reply*

We just left that place. Why do we... ugh, whatever. He'd better only not be responding because he's got food in his face.

*looks to Meowers*

"I guess we can add mercenary fetch to the list of things to do before leaving. Blue-hair wants us to tell the guy in the place we just ate in to hurry up. Not responding to messages. I swear, if any trouble kicked off in that place ..."

I was somewhat annoyed at having to go back there now, after already coming and going once, when I had planned to leave for my ship soon. I remained seated for now, waiting for Meowers to respond, and sent another message to Venus in the meantime.

We can go through extra details on the carrier while the jump is getting prepared. I can guarantee you that if there was a mole on that ship, a not-quite-legal monitoring program I have on there would have warned me about it. And I'd have found the closest airlock to shove them into.
18 Aug 2023, 12:01am
"Aw. Sure then, let's go," I nodded towards the abstract direction where the café was placed and stood up slowly.

Then, scowling a little at imaginary picture of the whole headache about having to deal with... Any kinds of trouble, from Avernus having allergic reaction and laying on the floor waiting for an ambulance, to some kind of terrorist attack... I added:

"Yep. Enough stuff going against our plans. This is becoming a little too much."
18 Aug 2023, 7:23am
“Well, anyway, let’s go and see what the deal is.”

The deal, it turned out as we arrived, was just the usual scene of a human with their face dug into food. Not quite literally, but it didn’t seem to be far off. I looked at Meowers.

“Well, I think we have our culprit. Would you mind?”

I gestured at the entrance with my head, not feeling like being the one to disturb and get between a hungry person and their food.
18 Aug 2023, 9:35am
"Oh," I made a sarcastic grin. "Out of all possible 'things aren't going according to plan' options... I guess that's the most welcome one."

Giggling quietly, covering my mouth with my hand, I took my datapad and opened the last message from Venus, making it visible on the screen. Then, carefully, almost on my tiptoes, as quiet and ballet'ish as military boots allow it at all, I approached Aventus and put the datapad on the table, next to his meal.

"Khm. Sir. I'm afraid we have to go."
18 Aug 2023, 11:14am
Aventus looks up from the meal in front of him swallowing a mouth full of food. He raises an eyebrow then looks at the data pad. Instinctively he reaches for his and find that it is missing.

'Ah crap. I was wondering why I was able to enjoy my meal.'

'OK I will pay this and we can go. Sorry for the inconvenience on you two lovely ladies.'

Aventis calls the waiter over and pays his bill ensuring to add a gracious tip on as well. He then stands from the table and motions for the two women to lead the way.
18 Aug 2023, 11:23am
“You don’t need us to find the hangars, do you?”

The statement was part tease, part question.

“And I was planning to head to my own ship anyway, unless our blue-haired leader wants to see everyone before hitching a ride.”

‘And I’d rather not go into a crowd.’, I added in my thoughts.

“Oh, and if any of your guys get off their ships on my carrier, make them behave.”
18 Aug 2023, 12:01pm
'I dunno big station I might get lost along the way.'

Aventis let's a small chuckle loose and at the mention of making his people behave he looks to Kasumi.

'Wait what? We're using a carrier? Huh must have missed a fair bit. But I can assure you the last thing these people will do is make a mess or cause trouble. Surprising as it may seem they are some of the most well behaved people I have met.'

With that he head out of the Café style restaurant and heads to the docks.
